I live in East St. Paul in a unfavorable neighborhood. I'm not really worried about ever having to use one, but It'd make me feel just a little bit better walking around. It's not like I have bullets whizzing past my head, but I'm used to the suburbs and felt nervous in this convience store where a couple of dudes were a little suplicious looking, you know, looking everywhere, hands in the pockets. shuffling.

I want to know where I can get a good quality kubaton, I'm looking for something That's 4.75' to 5.25' in either stainless steel or titanium. A carbon fiber one would be cool, but I'm looking for something under $45, $50 being the most I'd spend period. Searching google brought up way to many results. Just lookng for a reliable custom or company dealer on line. Thanks.

A 2xAA Maglight flashlight costs about $10 and will work just fine as an impact weapon.

go to home depot, buy a section of solid aluminum rod stock (9/16th"), cut to length, bevel the edges, sand smooth, add heavy duty o rings in the center for grip. DONE.

about $10.

I'd go for a light rather than just a "kubaton", a light can do all the same stuff and a little bit more. ;)
I have a good number of "fist fillers" from cheepie stuff to more expensive ones and I'd still prefer a torch every time.

A light is also not going to raise any questions if you get stopped by the cops and will raise less questions if you get grabbed for using it.

The flashlight can be taken into places where a purpose-built kubotan might not, also. I carry a Fenix L2D, about the diameter, a little longer, than most kubotans.

Oh right, those trident pronged flashlights didn't think of those. Kubatons are cheaper though. And I don't want one for show, I want one to do that wrist trick,, or the use-it-as-a-handle-for-slapping-you-with-keys trick. If I had to of course.

2AA flash light (cheap Mag or a ~$50 Fenix LD20)

Stainless Steel Sharpie (a few bucks)

or just head over to Alpha Innovations, the bonanza of kubatons, they have some that go for $7.

Get one of the Schrade or S&W tactical pens. Cheaper than anything else on the market, and they're rock solid.

Why all that? Why metal? Why high cost? I think you should have plenty of them around, so this is my recommendation:

The shrade or smith & wesson- I think they are made from same place, Taylor Cutlery Taiwan. I got a couple to play with and they are workable and you can get colors. about 30-40 bucks. They write nice too using a parker pen refill. A 2 AA cell led maglight they now sell that is a 1 watt led in same diameter as the old AA maglight is good idea. I also have a lot of carbon fiber if you MUST have a kubotan or something and I am sure I could whip something up fast and cheap but the flash light is a better option.
