I worked hard this year and I had a surprisingly high tax refund (500 more than last year! Canadian, but still :P)

So I want to buy myself a good knife. I'm ready to pay 100-140$ for it. More EDC than collectible.

On some sites, you can have a Cuda Maxx for around 125$, I was also thinking about benchmade (or HK maybe)
I would take a BM42, if they were not 160$ on knifezilla:jerkit:
I already have eliminated Spydies (the only one I want is the harpy, and I should get it this week :D )

Any other ideas? What would you buy in that price range?

Here's a BM42 for a more reasonable price: http://newgraham.com/detail.aspx?ID=3891

For folders in your price range, which includes about all of the nicer production folders, have you considered a BM710? I am very pleased with mine.

It would be hard to beat a MAXX for $125 though. 5.5" of D2 in a titanium framelock - very nice indeed.

But legal about anywhere and nice looking? None of the above. Too bad you ruled out Spyderco because they have a few that would be excellent. My choice in that area is the 75mm Persian, but a Kopa would be very nice too. Take a look at the Al Mar Hawk if the small size and the lack of one-hand-opening are not a problem.

Keep in mind that shipping through the Canadian customs will be tricky for any knife that can be opened by flicking, which is about any of them. It would be a good idea for someone to tighten the pivot down really hard before shipping it.

If only it were possible. They don't whip balis to Canada, but I can't blame them. I usually buy from them anyway. For buyers in Canada, they are the best.

Thanks for the advice, but I already knew. I've read a lot of tread about this. But thanks anyway, better to prevent.

I was asking a little everywhere if the Maxx could be opened without flicking it. After a lot of "yes" and "no" anwers. I decided to ask the best person in the world to answer this question. Mr. Ralph himself :) And I loved his answer.

The 710 looks cool, I will consider it.

So, my choices yet.

Camillus Cuda Maxx
Benchmade 710
Benchmade 42 :S
BM 14200s (hk34FDC)

More to add? No autos or AO's
Comments on those knives welcomed as well.

Since sombody already mentioned the BM 710, I will go ahead an throw in one of the other standard answers to this question.

Spyderco Military or Paramilitary, depending on if you prefer a 4" or 3" blade.

There is a whole host of other good choices too. Anything with an AXIS lock, Spyderco Manix (or Mini Manix), Ocelot, Chinook

A BM 710 in D2 or one of the older models in the CM154 would be sweet and long lasting.

Not saying any other choice so far is wrong, just concurring with a decent suggestion already given.

Happy media multiplying.
