Though I'm not sure what to get, and when it comes right down to it I don't really need it for anything. I just want to try something new. I have 10-20 knives, a handful of really high quality ones, and so I'm just curious as to what is out there.

I'm looking in the $50-$75 range. I've been seeing a lot of traditional fixed blades and slip joints that have been catching my eye lately, but I'm not really opposed to the tactical/utility category either.

I've really been wanting to try out a Spyderco, but most of the ones that I'm interested in have been right outside my price range. The big reason I want to try some Spyderco knives are for the different lock styles and the steel. Spyderco has VG-10, ZDP-189 and CPM-M4 as well as the ball-lock. I've been looking at the Gayle Bradley, the Caly 3 and the Manix 2.

Other than that I think maybe I just want to find a $50-75 knife from a great manufacturer I haven't purchased from yet. Try something new out, you know. So far I've tried Case (Trapper), Buck(119, Odyssey2), Kershaw(Needs Work), Benchmade(Kulgera), Schrade(Uncle Henry Stockman, Old Timer Dogleg Jack), ESEE(Izula), Leatherman (Supertool 200) and KaBar (USMC Full Sized Fighting/Utility).

I think for the $50-75 I'd either want a fixed blade or a one-hand folder, unless there are some really nice slip-joints available for that too.

I wish I had a knife store nearby I could just go browse.

You obviously need a Becker BK-2. :D

I'm awaiting my ESEE 4.. Next purchase is an Izula. =) Also a fan of Kershaw folders, built well and easy on the wallet.

For a one handed folder in that range go back to Kershaw. You can get a JYDII Composite in that range, a Lahar in VG-10, Groove framelock, and a few others that would satisfy that itch. Look for Kershaw Guy to get a great deal on those.

This. If you want to try a kind of wacky lock, you could go for a RAM, which I've heard great things about. I believe the JYDII and Leek, both in D2, are available in your pricerange, too, if you want to try a different steel.

Of course, if you're already interested in the Manix-2, GET IT! It's a fantastic knife and only about 5$ higher than your price range.

Cold Steel Recon 1 folder... at around $60 it is tough as nails and as close as you can come to a fixed blade in a folding package with the Triad lock. Big but not too heavy.. and great ergos.

On the upper end of your budget you can get a Speedform II. Elmax Steel in a very slick design. I believe there is one for sale in the trade forums.

I don't know if you've handled any of these but I can honestly say the three knives that have impressed me the most for the money over the last few years are the Spyderco Sage1, the Case/Tony Bose swayback jack, and the Izula. Each can be found for under $90 and are impressive for what you pay.

GingivitisKahn and FLexxx have the right idea..... B E C K E R !! :D
You can almost any knife in their lineup with that price range. Everyone has a purpose all their own. Very overbuilt knives designed to be used and abused.
