I'm looking to get a new knife in stainless steel, and was wondering about the metals used.I,m looking at 420hc,440a,440c and D2 as blade steel.I was wanting to know how difficult 440c and D2 steel is to sharpen compared to high carbon steel.I'v been around awile and have sharpened many times using a medium wet stone and finishing on a Arkansas medium stone.I'm afraid the D2 might be to hard/laborus for me.Any help will be appreciated. Also in the near future I will be getting a new fixed hunting knife and I'v been eyeing the new s30v knives:eek: ,would they be hard to sharpen.

WELCOME to blade forums!

With the sharpening stones you use and given the steels you mention, I'd look for stuff in 420HC and 440C.

ps D2 is not stainless steel.

Invest in good sharpening equipment. It'll make any steel easy to sharpen, and you'll be able to better maintain the knives you already have. There are lots of opinions, but to start with, I'd suggest a DMT Coarse stone, and all three grits of the Spyderco ceramic stones.
