I'm new to the slipjoint world of knives and I own an Old Timer 580T that my Pop gave me, but I'm looking for something new. Everyone seems to talk about Shatt & Morgan or Queen knives as being a cut above Old Timers and Cases. I wanted to know how Mooremaker slipjoint knives compare to the rest of them? I'm considering getting a NICE slipjoint to carry and I don't really know what to look for. I was hoping to find something with ATS-34 steel or better ie: M-2, D-2, VG-10 S30v ect. I was thinking about spending up to $120. Any suggestions?

Without going custom Queen is the only one I know of making slippies in D2. They are making quite a few paterns in D2 as well. The ones I have seen are very nice fit and finish, not the best factory edge but I haven't seen a factory edge on a slip joint I've been happy with yet.

I have started carrying a bulldog congress knife around again. Love the design. Very affordable version of this knife.
Good luck in your search. There are too many to choose from. Have fun,

Personally, I love the Mooremakers.
They have a great selection of slipjoints in both smooth and jigged bone handles in many colors. Fit and finish is as good or better than most Queens I've seen. Haven't seen any Schatt and Morgans but I'm sure they're nice. The only thing is that they are more collector's pieces than users. Most of the S and M knives use SS blades.
I've had quite a few of them before I settled on this one as my EDC.
If you're interested, I have a very lightly used stockman FS.
Contact me for the specifics.
(Hope I didn't break any protocol)

IMO Schatt & Morgan produce the highest quality prodution knives - their fit and finish, walk and talk is comparable to none (of all the brands I have handled anyway). My problem is that I buy a S&M as a user and when I get it it's so nice it winds up in storage! I have an S&M stockman that has ATS 34 blades which can be had for about $100. It's a sweetie - green worm groove handle, half stops and the blades have an incredible snap to them.
Queen knives are great too, fit and finish is not up to the S&Ms but then neither is price. I have a stockman in D2 and Cocobolo which is really a great looking and well made knife (think it cost me about $50)
My EDC is a Mooremaker stockman in yellow plastic scales. Great fit and finish, walk and talk in 1095. Made by Queen I belive.

Thank you very much gentlemen for your replies. I'm going to have to find the Queen website and take a look at their selection. I'm essentially looking for a high quality slipjoint with high end steel. It appears Queen cutlery will fulfill my requirements.

Another line by Queen Cutlery, not currently in production but there are still a lot of them around in mint condition, is Robeson ShurEdge...most of the ones with strawberry jigged bone scales are made with ats-34...the sleeveboard and toothpick I know for certain, and there are some others.

Only a few of the Schatt & Morgans used ats-34...research their "Year Series" offerings carefully to determine which ones.

Ditto on the Robeson. I have a small stockman with ATS34 blades. I love that knife. Robesons with ATS34 are etched as such on the main blade. Search the internet; although discontinued in late 90's (?), you'll still find 'em. Funny thing about mine - I bought it to match a muskrat I have in a display case (gift from daughters), but was so anxious to eyeball it I took it out as soon as I left the store. I dropped it, chipped the handle, and was heartbroken. After several days of anguish, I figured what the hell, took out the Dremel, polished out the chip (lost a little color), and now its a guilt-free EDC. And scary sharp.
