No question here. Just me begging. Please! Oh Please!!
Come on fans of Bucks Tactical Knives.
Voice your support!
We want the NightHawk in S30V!
Thank you for listening:)

I like the Nighthawk but a thick S30V blade will make that knife very expensive. Also, S30V may be too chippy for a knife that's most important quality is being tough. I don't know, I guess I think its fine in 420HC and at it's current price point.

Maybe it wouldn't cost so much more to do it in S30V. The Vantage in S30V is roughly twice the price as the 420HC price. So maybe a NightHawk in S30V at around twice cost? Maybe around $80 or so.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that to happen if I were you. There have been folks begging for S30V upgrades for the slippies and various other much more popular patterns than the Nighthawk for a long time.

Their plea's seem to fall on deaf ears, so there doesn't seem to be much interest in that sort of thing at Buck. I'm sure they have their reasons.

I think Buck is more sensitive to price point with thier knives. Where someone might not blink at spending $300 or more on a Randall, CRK, Strider, or Busse I think most balk at paying in excess of $100 for a Buck knife. I think that is why the Buck collaboration with Strider, Mayo, and Simonich were not as sucessfull and they should have been.

;) I don't know about "most" folks, but I have my share (and probably a few other people's shares) of $100 + Buck knives. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to pay that or more for a S30V Buck that I liked.

I can see them not offering "exotic" steels in some of the entry level knives (although they offer it in the Vantage Pro) but why not the 110, 112 or the 300 series?

Maybe entry level isn't the right term to use. More like, less popular knives.

Given the economy and current cut backs at Buck, I dont think they will market something in the near future that has limited appeal among the general population of knife users.

The Nighthawk is a thick bladed knife. It is by design a knife that should allow to be beat on. It is not a fine slicer. Nothing about this knife needs a very expensive blade steel like S30V which is a knife steel that specializes in edge retention. I just don't see the need for S30V in a big heavy hacker. I wouldn't think S30V is needed in an axe either.

Of course that's just my opinion.

i'm perfectly happy with the blade on it for how i use it. i keep one in each car and our emergency kits. not meant for filleting a day's catch or skinning so a lasting fine edge isnt so important but being able to absorb some hard use in a pinch while maintaining a serviceable edge with whatever means at hand are.

Exactly Wings!! An emergency kit knife...I really like that. It make me think the Besh wedge Blackhawk would be perfect for that job!!
