I have a friend who is a high class knife maker. http://www.pattonknives.com He has agreed to make me a knife for a nominal price. I really want a original looking yet very functional knife. I'm a fan of bowies and tantos, would anyone have any suggestions for an original knife. (this knife is for me, me nor the maker will be selling the design) :)

I don't have a suggestion for a style, but I do like how the blade looks on the front page of the website!

Isnt the point of a custom blade to design your own knife. If we tell you how what to have made than it will be our idea and thus not original.

I'm, as of just the other day, a big fan of bowies. Just got my first one, an inexpensive yet awesome Ontario SP10. If I were you, I'd ask him to make a "vest pocket bowie." It would have classic bowie lines and styling, but with his signature stylistic influence, and be smaller (say, 5" blade) so it's easier to carry and more suited for EDC-type tasks.

This, but bigger, and not made with Damascus. That would be my style. The Damascus actually looks really great with that Stag though. This exact pattern with an 8" or 9" blade would be amazing.

If Rob Patton is your friend, I think you're insulting him by wanting something "original" suggested by strangers. If he's so kind as to be willing to make you a knife, why not ask him to decide on what to make for you (he knows you, right?) If not, you should look through his gallery of knives, pick out something that you like and then take it from there, maybe change materials, make small changes to it, etc. so that is becomes a one-off knife.

Im not looking for anyone on here to tell me how my knife should look or anything of the such, I merely was hoping to get ideas for something that I would want to do, and I have asked Rob for ideas, Im simply trying to go through as much information as I can to make a knife that is truly me (seeing as I will actually be helping him make it)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE sheepsfoot and wharncliffe fixed blades. They are different, but still very practical.
