I want another 7, split between a 7B SF and 7V.

I was debating posting this same thread. I would like to hear peoples responses. I'm debating between a 7our a commander.

Tough choice there. I would like to pick up a 7. Might go with the b myself just for availability and pricing reasons.

I don't know what the right answer is, to be they appear to be the same knife. I own a 7v and it's cool, I feel the handle to blade ratio happens to be a tad bit disproportionate. It does feel very sturdy in the hand though and at times a little big for my setting. Compared to my mini 7 its the same just a little more a "friendlier" looking knife I guess. As far as serrations...not a fan only due to the fact that they would be useless for me. I hardly ever cut fibrous or really thick material.
Good luck on your personal quest and adventure while in search for the perfect knife.

I'll get around to a commander at some point! I just don't care for recurves. That's why I love my CQC-8! And I've noticed that my 8 slices far better, but I haven't determined if it's the grind or just the coating on my 7 vs the SF finish on my 8. I'm super curious to know whether any owners of both the V and B SF can chime in and tell me if they notice a difference in cutting performance.

The 7B SF is a staple of the lineup. The 7V is a Prestige edition knife, and there's no telling how long it wll be available. I'd get a 7V now and worry about the more standard variants later.

Additionally, it's important to remember that the 7V has a "V" grind while the B has a chisel grind. If you do a lot of "scraping" type work on harder surfaces, the standard chisel grind is best. It's great at getting product stickers and SKU's off of flat hardware, etc. The chisel grind is also more apt to slice finer, due to the more acute angle.

But I'd still get the V while it's available, 'cause you never know when Ernie will rerelease certain models. Still waiting on another HD-7 :(

Good advice. I bought an extra 7V because it was a Prestige blade. It's been sitting in the box in my dresser ever since.

I use the heck out of my knives, so collectivity of it doesn't concern me much. If somebody were to tell me they found that the 7B glides through material a bit better than the 7V, even with the slight veering from the grind, that's the way I'd go. I just want it to glide as smoothly as my SF 8.

^ 7B slices finer than the V in my experience. Like I said, the chisel grind is more acute. Bites harder and faster and smoother. But not by a whole lot. You wouldn't be blamed for or even regret just picking based on looks at this point.
