I just received a Sage 6 button Compression Lock in S90V and did the second detent removal mod and so far, I'm liking it. Now only if Spyderco offered this model with caged bearings, a 1/4 inch longer blade, and 1/4 inch longer handle, it would be perfect. That's all.

The second detent removal does make a noticeable difference.

Never considered the sage because it is too small for my liking, but I'm a bit confused how it can still work without that spring and ball bearing?

I like the Sage model, especially the Sage 6 with the push button release. As far as opening and closing, mine came perfect from the factory, so in that regard I'm very happy with it as-is. I did post somewhere (either BF or the Spyderco forum) about a Sage XL, and as I recall I said making it about 1/4"-3/8" longer would be nice - my suggestion did not get any interest either, so what do we know? ;)😀

That spring and detent ball just fit in the frame to keep the blade from swinging open when the button is depressed. When you remove it, the knife pretty much functions like a standard button lock. The Smock has the same setup. It's really just a fancy compression lock.

When I first removed the spring and detent ball, I didn't know that one of the advantages would be that it could now open when pressing the button and swinging it. I like knives that have more than one way of opening it.
The Benchmade axis lock works like that as well.

I totally agree, but a blade and a handle like that would make for the best pocketknife! And it already exists and it's called the manix 2. Different lock for sure, and I haven't tried any of the button compression locks, but the way they make the detent click on the manix feels great everytime
