I want Moore!

Neil aka addylo recently sent me this in return for a bit of Harris Tweed that I had sent to Texas where he lives.

A smooth green bone 1095 Moore Maker small trapper.

A lot of thought went into it I'm sure; green bone, three inches closed, carbon steel... perfect!

I had until this one, never used a trapper pattern. The spey blade had never appealed. Much like those who were surprised by Charlie's 'Day's Work' barlow, I like it a lot and I have used it a great deal since I received it. I am eternally grateful, Neil. It has and will continue to have a lot of pocket time from here on.

I'm much obliged, my friend.

So to the rest of you... I do remember Pete having a couple of Moore Makers but they don't get a lot of press here. The two that I have, and here's the other...

... are both excellent pieces of cutlery. This yellow bone congress has been one of my favourites for over a year now and I've had it in my pocket at least once a week since I bought it. Checking the Moore Maker home page, they have an astonishing array of patterns in various sizes and handle options and I am surprised I don't see more of them regularly here in the traditional subforum.

So I ask you, as Dickens' Oliver did; "Please sir, can I have some Moore?"

Paul

I have three Mooremakers. My wife gave them to me years ago, they are some of my favorite knives! I believe mine were made by Queen. That congress is a beaut!!

I do love the Moore Maker Stockman. I own a large and a medium size, both in smooth yellow bone. Beautifully made folders. Pricey but not unreasonable. I think Queen does a better job on the Moore Maker models than they do on those with their own branding.

Lookin' good, bro! Glad you like it. And thanks again for the Harris Tweed wallet. Very thoughtful of you, and a nice little piece of Scotland to remember our recent trip by.

My pleasure buddy! If you ever fancy trading tweed for Moore Makers again, just you let me know!

:D

I picked up a couple Moores lately, used but in good shape, and really like them.

This thread requires pictures ladies and gentlemen! Unless you have a photo, it didn't happen!

You got it, Paul, and the green bone looks awesome! I have several favored Moore Maker stockmen, in delrin, bone and stag.

Seeing these Moore Maker knives on here makes me want to try one. Are all of their knives made by other companies?

Yes, they don't make any themselves. I believe Camillus in the early days, and more recently Queen and Bear & Sons have all made MM knives.

Queen was actually their initial producer, and they make many of them to this day. Camillus came along later, after Camillus went under they added Bear & Utica. Also Canal Street. One or two patterns made in Germany by Boker, all others USA made.

Their initial knives by Queen were in the early to mid 1990's.

Beautiful! I really like that white bone. I think I'll have to go get me a stockman once the baby is born.
