As it says, I am wanting to get my first Becker knife. Now the problem (if you can call it that), is that I cannot decide which model I like. I am really considering either the BK9 or the BK7, and the use would be a main knife for camping/hiking/hunting. Now to be honest, I really love playing with my knives and as such I want a bigger blade that I could really enjoy destroying trees, and really abusing as a tool. However, right before I commit to a BK9 (the obvious bigger knife), I get second thoughts about how large it truly is in fears that it will be too big to be used as a "plaything" when I am just toying around. Really I am looking for yall's opinions on what would be the best Becker for a first timer? other ideas are also welcome, although i'd like to stay under 150$. Thanks!

My first Becker was a 9. Friend bought a 7. We were chopping fat wood and other camp chores one day and switched knives for a while. He went out and bought a 9 the next day. I still do not own a 7.

I got a BK2 once, but it was much larger than I had figured. These Beckers have a great rep; just make sure you have an idea of what you need... before you buy...

A BK10 is kinda like a BK2 slimmed down, if the thicker blade of the 2 turns you off. For everything except chopping, the BK7 is just as good as the BK9. And then you can throw in a tweener too. :D

For chopping the BK9 will definitely have an advantage and with batoning the extra length will help you span wider pieces of wood. Depends on what you are going to use it for mostly. If just hiking around, the BK7 will be easier to carry as it's not as long and will weigh less slightly. If I'm hiking around a lot, you'll find me with a BK16 as I like to travel lightweight.

I would get the BK-9. That's the one you want, so get it.

I have a BK-7. It isn't as good a chopper as the BK-9. But I don't chop much with a knife anyway. Treat your knife right and your knife will treat you right for many years.

By the way, I don't carry the BK-7 hiking often. Too big for me. Prefer the BK-15 or BK-16.

My first Becker was a 7 too :D
