Hi All,
I want to purchase a traditional Barlow in good to great quality. What would you recommend to me that is currently available?
Kevin

Budget let's call it max 150. Not really looking for other styles, I own a few GEC's, but nothing in a Barlow. Does not seem that GEC plans on releasing then again soon, so I thought I might try something else...maybe a S&M 69? Not really sure, what else might be out there?

Rough Rider.
Choice of several different handle materials, and sizes from tiny to Grand Dad.
All at a price that will not breakrupt the bank.
They may be inexpensive, but they are not "cheap".
Rough Rider is consistently one of the sharpest knives out of the box. They hold an edge well, and are easy to resharpen.
They rival knives costing many times more in fit and finish.
Check out the Rough Rider and Related thread.

Sorry, by preferences I meant covers, blade shape, steel.

If you cant find a GEC I would look at the 69 and just contact the deealer. Ask them to look it over and help you out.

Covers could be wood or jigged bone. Blade I'm open to, drop point, sheepsfoot, probably something more traditional
. Blade steel I'm fine with a good carbon steel or SS, don't need anything exotic.

Interesting, I had not considered this brand. Inexpensive enough, might be able to scratch the Barlow itch and get another GEC!

Check out the Lionsteel rounhead barlow thread under this thread for great quality

You can also search the big auction site for older Case Barlows.

Well for the price I ordered a Rough Rider barlow (and also a sowbelly), figured out that price I would see what their like. I will look into the Lionsteel, thanks for the heads up!

Take a look at some of the GEC dealers who carry Queen/Schatt & Morgan. There is a real nice limited edition S&M barlow out now. I'll likely see this specific dealer in a couple weeks at a show and if that barlow is still available, it will probably go home with me.

Edited out a link as I doubt they are a BF dealer.

If you like that Rough Rider and decide to get another Barlow, take a look at the A.G. Russell website. He has several to offer but the one I've always wanted is the Medium Lockback Barlow. I've never owned one but they look great and people who do own them seem to like them.

I have a AG Russell war eagle barlow - nice. I think he has stopped carrying the lock back barlow though.

Any of the major brands are good , I have Case, RR , Western,Camco,Old Timer and several other brands.

No one has mentioned Waynorth's GEC barlows. Good knives. As far as availability goes, I have no idea unless a new offering comes up.

There was also the Northwoods Madison barlow models that probably are sold in the secondary market. I wouldn't be surprised to see another run of those. But they generally are not traditional barlows. I like them a lot however.

Please post pictures of your new Rough Riders, and your thoughts on them, when they arrive. :)
