Dave,
Andre de Villiers uses it on his knives. It looks NICE!!!! I guess it grows in South Africa. We discussed trading Olive Wood for some of my Mil Spec Ti. at the Atlanta show.
I guess I should contact him also!!!!!

New to me is a place in AZ that has loads of materials for knife making. I've only ordered one time from then and am waiting to get stuff, but have no reason to doubt they're a geat supplier. I don't work for them or even know them, but if anyone wants the site address, please email me.

have gotten it from gilmers in oregon before.. far out stuff...smells like olive oil...duh!!

Olivewood is available here in UK an is I believe from Spain. You could try a wood turning supplier. This wood has some very nice figuring and is quite oily. Let me know if you fail to locate any, I may have some in my stock box.

Olive wood is available in france, and it 's low price. I dont have the adress here but if you need some, and if you can buy it from france, mail me i will look for the adress.

I want everyone to understand something here. Theres wood and theres wood....I used to make furniture before I made knives...I sharpen tools for the koa furniture makers on this island....The guy who owns Gilmers knows what knifemakers wants....he stashes special pieces just for people like us... you can buy some olive wood...or you can get some super spectacular blow your mind stuff from gilmers....I have NEVER been disappointed by the guy...

Tom is right. Olive wood from a tree trunk looks pretty plain. You gotta find someone who stocks the wavy textured/coloured stuff from the burls and roots. Try a wood turning supplier.

I would like to get in touch with the guy who owns Gilmers. Can anyone tell me the adress ?
Thanks

I will second the notion for Gilmer's.

Like Tom said, there is wood and there is knifemaking wood. Just because you find a burl, it doesn't mean it's a handle quality burl.

Dave- If you want to drive down to Gilmer's, you take I-5 south until you come to the HWY 405 exit.

As you come to the southside of the bridge, take Exit 30 (St. Helens) and get into the left lane as soon as you can.

Turn left onto Nicholi St.
Follow Nicholi until you get to 31st and Nicholi. It's a big red building on the corner, you can't miss it.

It's a pretty cool place to go. But the nice thing about Gilmer's is like Tom said, the guy there can mail you wood that won't dissapoint.

Just some info...
Nick
