I want to delete the small blade from my canoe

Motorcycles are made by removing 10 lugnuts from a small car.

JK. It's probably going to be very difficult. What knife do you have? If it's a dual spring then it's possible...

Slipjoint knives are made with a lot of precision fitting and you can mess that up pretty quickly. The pins for one usually cause damage when you remove them, then installing new pins takes some special equipment and skill.

Ha thanks macchina, it's a newer case canoe (2000's)

In my drunken state (heavily buzzed) I did It! Still needs finishing like grinding the pins down etc but it's centered an has good snap

Hopefully your screen name still applies...:D;)

Hehe yep all digits still intact

A few pics..

Still needs work but it's a ugly functioning knife and I already like it much better. Now it may get some pocket time

Just out of curiosity, why did you want to lose the small blade?

Very nice!
You'll want to grind the pins until they are just proud of flush then take a small peening hammer and peen the pins before finish grinding and buffing them.
The holes for the pins are actually countersunk (tapered) a bit and you have you expand the pins into this space. Otherwise you'll see ghost lines around the pins after final finishing.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I think this may be an "America Has Talent" moment(and all 10Fingers!)
I can see the appeal of a single blade Canoe pattern- Ultra Light if you will . Always seemed to me as a bit bulky albeit comfortable in use. Good job!
Get it finished up and update this post please.

TAKE OUT THE BIG BLADE too and you might be able to sell it to Marcel Marsou for a hellofapile of moola...

And so it goes...

Haha daring man 10fingers What was the process you went through to extract the pins? A vice, a punch and a mallet or? I imagine it'll look good when ground down and finished up, nice that you found your way into a knife you'll carry now~

its a lot of trouble if you dont have the proper tools i suppose. i remember wanting a one bladed trapper since i was a kid and that was in 06, bought this cheap reindeer trapper and tapped out the pins to take the spey blade out. had to get my father to help me fix the knife back. of course then the cheap scales cracked and broke...

Nice work 10 fingers, a mod to be proud of!

Just a note in case you don't already know. Before you hammer those pins down, you should use a slackener between the cover and the blade. A slackener is nothing more than a thin piece, usually metal, that creates a tiny gap, so that when you peen the pins down tight, the action is still kept in good shape. If you still have some blade play after removing the slackener, you can still tigthen things up with small taps on each side. Just take it slow. Loosening things up, if too tight, can be tricky, and possibly hazardouse to your blades.

I make my slackeners out of feeler gauges.

You did a nice job getting it back together! Just of out curiosity why did you not just buy a single blade knife instead of taking a two blade apart?
