Well today I was helping getting the caravan ready to go on holiday in a week so any way I was in our garage and I found a knife. The blade was completely covered in rust, I asked my dad about it and he said he got it in london when he was at college. He said it was a good quality knife, the knife is probably 30+ years old well any way he said I could have it. So I got some sand paper and got all the rust off and I tryed sharping it and it is not sharping up very well will this be because the steel was a really good steel??? or because of its age. I have been sharping it for about an hour and its starting to take an edge, I forgot to say there was no edge at all when I found it. I don't have any good quality knives so I don't know what its like sharping good steel(been at college don't have alot of money). The knife is a fixed blade, it has stag for handles but I don't know if its real(never felt stag) but the "stag" is light in weight. It has know writing on the blade. I would put up a picture but I don't know how. So what do you guys think.
Thanks for any help

I think your Dad needs to get a rebate from that college. :D

About the knife, find someone near you that does know how to sharpen a knife. Let them sharpen it or better yet let them learn you how to do it. ;)

Thanks I will look into that.

Shouldn't that be TEACH me how to do it :D :D :D

Hey Soul, I think the "learn you to" was Phil light heartedly mocking you some more...

Yes that makes perfect sense, he users bad grammar to make me look bad. Thank you for telling me Triton.

if you want to send me the knife and just include return postage i'll put a nice factory sharp edge on it for you,e-mail me if you'd like me to to take care of it for you

Sounds like a good deal to me.

how much experience do you have sharpening knives? cause a "good steel" knife take considerably longer to sharpen then your average kitchen knife, and it should have some kind of stamping on the blade itself, make something like seki or solingen, hell maybe it says Randall Made! anyways good luck with the sharpening if you search on google you should be able to find some good faqs on sharpeing and remeber a permanent marker could be your best friend

Thanks yiterp thats very nice of you but I wanted to do it myself because I will never learn how to do it if I get other people to do it for me but thanks again. My dad gave me some pionters on how to sharpen.

Frank Castle I didn't design it to attract fire but it did a good job at it:D :D :D

Manji I'am not very good at sharpening, my dad is good at it and he has put an edge on it for me.
