Hi everyone,
I'm going to go canoe camping a few times this summer (again) and I've been pondering at the idea of making a smoker at our camp area. I have an idea on the shape/style (like a teepee) but I was wondering what I could use as "walls". I've seen a lot built with metal barrels, wood planks, tin... etc... but none of these I can carry easily in my canoe. I need something light. I "could" use birch bark but I would rather not.
I can make shift the shape of the smoker with sticks and say, hang some trouts off a horizontal pole going through the smoker but I need to wrap it in something to form outside walls. I remember seeing deer skins or any type of skins to form the walls of the smoker in an old video... Obviously I wont have these out while canoe camping. Has anyone ever tried with regular blue tarp? Would it get too hot for the plastic? I've also heard of using cardboard but that will be a pita if it rains or gets wet.
Anybody tried it before?
