I've seen several fine examples of what some were calling desk knives. I'm going to be buying or ordering one soon and wanted to see some examples....soooooo.....let's see them. :)

They are very handy. Here are two swaybacks. Top one by Mike Zscherny, bottom by Tony Bose. both sheaths by Kerry Hampton.

Here's another by Tony with a sheath by Paul Long.

Can you tell something about desk knifes, What are they used for? / Bosse
Very expensive letter openers. Decoration. Something to display alongside your MontBlanc desk set and Swaroski crystal clock. :D

That, and other things you might need to do with a knife at a desk, which might depend on what you do at that desk. I have several small fixed blades which are used for cutting patches, mattes, leather, whatever I'm working on at the time.

They work well as paring knives in a kitchen. I've used them to break down boxes, open packages, skin elephants, etc. The usual fixed blade stuff.

The sheaths by Kerry are nice and flat, so sometimes I carry one in my back pocket.

Beautiful knives and sheaths. Just for comparison, this is a 120+ year old desk knife. Made by George Butler Sheffield. It has Her Majesty's (Victoria) Stationery Office mark on the handle.

I've seen similar knives to that in s-k's post also referred to as "quill knives", as they were meant for dressing the tip of quill pens.

I'm sure you guys are aware that Case had some at the SHOT Show last January. The story is they may be available next month in some handle materials and more choices to follow in the fall.

I was not aware but I thank you for mentioning it. I'd certainly like a handmade desk knife but a production knife may be necessary to fill the void between order and delivery. :)

That black Bose desk knife is AWESOME !!!!! Its the knife that turned me on to BF and Bose.

My swayback (and superb sheath) by Kerry Hampton....

Mike noted they make nice backpocket knives.

Mr. Robuck let me "coon finger" that one for a few days.

Yeah, well I got to coon finger it, chiken eye it, and scrape the head gasket off my Land Cruiser with it...thanks again Mikey. :D

p.s. - it's hell to get the Land Cruiser on and off my desk. :p

p.s.s. - Great thread and really sweet knives folks are showing.

This is my current desk knife, which was made by Eugene Shadley. It's about 6.25" with ats34 blade and terrific green jigged bone that looks like something I used to catch in Bodcau Bayou. I love it.

Thanx for the explanation. It would have been obvious considering word: (desk) but the locks of them and the powerful sheats disturbed me from recognizing the obvious. Fantastic letteropeners those knifes. Such extraordinary work of those makers. Is a deskknife something that an amerikan man, working with papers is likely to get as a 50-years gift or an aniversery gift? I gladly see a few more.

I need one of those. If anything, just to keep the four or five knives on my desk company. :D

Was never even aware of them, learned something new here yet again. Thanks all for sharing the info and gorgeous pics!

I've told this story before but not in this thread :p...

When I first met Tony, after I revived his sick computer, he made me a desk knife blade by tracing an old K-BAR trapper with the master blade open. He slid the blade across the kitchen table and told me to put a handle on it. I thought I was a smartypants when I decided to put "caps and bolsters" on it and pin it to make it look like a pocket knife. When I showed Tony the finished knife, he gave the standard reply I have got used to hearing from him..."I've done that". :D

I call it the Bose/Hampton Collaboration Knife. The handle is ebony...bolster/caps/pins are NS. The blade is CPM-440V.

The sheath is early/vintage me. I've made some improvements in the way that I make them so hopefully I don't turn out anything this ragged ever again. :o

I like the jigging on Kerry's desk knife.

Ford, I think I know where you got that Shadley, and it's a sweet one.
