Hello people Thanks for reading this. I am a new person to collecting knifes and was wondering what would be good tips on how to start collecting. I am into throwing knives also bowie knifes. I have looked online and found that acrylic display cases are better to store them in and that Renaissance Wax is really great for it. I would like more info on how to choose a knife also. Thanks people for taking time to read this.

Sincerely,

Jeremy

I got a rusty rags kit. Works great on my carbon steels.

Although I am mainly a user and not so much a collector once a knife comes my way it usually never leaves me. welcome to the knife sickness....

In my opinion if its just for display get what ever looks good in your eyes. Just because its expensive or a certain brand doesnt mean you will enjoy it. I have my fair share of let downs. I started by getting cheap Chinese copies and worked my way up from there. (wasted couple 100$ on them) I am somewhere in the production knife phase and not yet into customs. My wallets fears that day i put down 300+ for a knife)

The last tip I have for you is to go into a real brick and mortar knife store and just hold, look and fondle every knife. Majority of the time purchasing online will be cheaper but a real store can really come in handy. Ill support my local store once in a while.

Before the rusty rags kit Vaseline for long term and silicon lube for short term from rite aid and home depot worked fine. Be careful on wood/leather though

For long term storage of old, valuable knives of carbon steel and natural materials, I'd recommend you search past topics in the Bernard Levine Knife Identification and Collecting area and post questions there. Especially, learn why you should NOT "restore" your valuable old knives, and do minimal cleaning. Then, quickly learn what niche you want to collect in, so you can build a focused, coherent collection. Learn to assess value and avoid fakes. Learn what celluloid is and why some avoid it. Learn to part with one once in awhile. Budget for your hobby and stick to it so you don't have to pawn it later.

what do you need our help for? just pick stuff you like

everyone has their own approach to starting any kind of collection. I'm kind of a quantity over quality guy myself, and I choose knives I want to add to my collection based on qualities I value such as usefulness and appearance. just go with whatever feels right, no one can build a collection that best expresses you aside from you

If you want to collect "Bowie" knives, just find what you like and get it. There is a huge number of styles of "Bowie" knives, almost none of which have anything to do with Bowie's knife. So you might as well follow what you like.

How much do you want to spend per knife?

Is there and good bowie brand knifes that are worth collecting?

When it comes to bowies only customs come to mind. The good thing is that you don't have to start with Bagwells or Morans :)
There are nice bowies showing on forums every day.
