I won't be lame and ask you guys how, because I know that's gotta get obnoxious.

What I want to know is how much it should realistically cost to start making a bunch of different kydex sheaths w/ tech locks.

If you currently have tools like a band saw/scroll saw, drill and a sander the cost will be limited. If you already have tools then all you'll need is the kydex, rivets, tek-loks, rivet setter, a press of some kind and a method of heating the kydex. To heat the kydex I picked up an electric frying pan for 6 bucks at a thrift store. When I started all I had was a Dremel tool, two pieces of foam/wood and a hand setter for the rivets. I have not been doing this anywhere near as long as some people but I would say to start you can make do with just a Dremel ,press, toaster oven/heat gun/electric frying pan, raw materials. I would estimate the cost of around 100-150 to get started. When I look back that's about my initial investment starting from nothing. I do strongly recommend getting a band or scroll saw because it was a serious pain cutting a decent shape with the Dremel tool. Check out knifekits.com they carry a bunch of stuff to get you started.

150 is a good guess... A few sheath kits, heat gun & press would cost me 152 off that website. I've got saws & sanders and a drill, so that should be it I think. Seems fairly doable.

Thanks!

if i may ask....why tek locks? they up the cost of a sheath by at least $11 you can make clips with the kydex too
