but paying close to $100 more for a paramilitary than from Amazon.com is a no go for me. Anyways, just ordered a black/black/plain G10 (all have G10?), should get it friday. I have always liked Spyderco, but the only ones I was really aware of up until a few months ago was the cheaper models they sell at REI. Its funny though, the Spyderco Rescue I have had for 15 years is the only blade that I have actually used to save myself from being snagged by a sinewy rope like thing while wading through a fairly fast moving 3 ft deep creek in the middle of nowhere.

It's always good to hear about a good knife (or any, for that matter) that's come to the 'rescue' (how appropriate) when it was needed the most. In a lifetime, a person may only REALLY NEED it one time, but it's nice to be prepared if/when that day comes. Way to go!

Like most things, moderation is best. I dont have any knife shops near me, but with my local bicycle shop I do try to support them most of the time. You cant break your bank account trying to support the locals, but spending SOME of your money is what I try to do.

That goes for a lot if not most knives in small local shops.

All my spydies were purchase at a local knife shop. I go there often and spend lots of money. The best guys you could possibly meet.

Oh, yes. The shop is called SFO.:D

See, the only local shop that I have found that has a decent selection is located in Fishermans Wharf. That spells tourist. I dont want to have anything to do with buying over priced stuff. Soon as I find a decent local place NOT in Fishermans Wharf, I will happily give my business to them.

This weekend, huge sale at TAD gear

660 22nd St. San Fran

They have some spydies...

(I'm not affiliated in any way--just rueing that I live a continent away from a huge sale at one of my absolute favorite gear stores. Somebody should get some joy!!)

My "local" knife shop, which carries Spyderco about 50 miles away and knives priced at MSRP or above. The only knife which I bought there is Lum Tanto folder. If I would have NGK near by, I would buy mostly there, unfortunately it is about 12 hours drive :(

Yea, but they have only three or four Spyderco models. The rest are limited edition high price knives (Strider etc...). They do have a nice fixed blade Spyderco I believe. Im just waiting for them to get those damn Spartan pants back in stock. Ive been hounding them for three weeks, and am told sometime soon.

Well, I just got the paramilitary in the mail. Holy shit, this is teh sharpest knife I have ever encountered fresh from the factory. The fit and finish is fantastic, and it fits my hands perfectly. Im more than happy with it

While my local does charge a premium on some of their knives it's one I'm willing to bite sometimes (varies per model). Even if I was to import from the US the Shipping charges (and sometimes the customs charges) reduces the savings.

Lower end models like tenacious, persistence come out about the same with shipping from the US. The more expensive models is where it pays for me to buy online. for instance, my orange military cost me US$150 X 45 actual exchange rate. If I bought that from my local dealer sight unseen, it would have cost me US$220X50. Big difference.

I wouldn't really feel bad about it,I understand where you are coming from but if they don't sell what you want to buy, that isn't your fault haha,And 100$ extra is a bit silly when spyderco is just as american as your local shop.
