I want to touch it

Since I will probably never get the chance to experience one I will have to rely on you guys to describe how it feels. The gimping on the liner lock bar of the military looks so fine yet sharp like it would be a nice grippy delight to use. Is it too sharp for repeated use? How does it compare to say, the thumb ramp gimping on a PM2?

Thanks since it seems to be a knife designed around use with gloves wasn't sure if it would be too abrasive but you guys answered my question 👍

I just paid attention to where my thumb makes contact with the liner lock. Due to the larger cutout in the scale where the lockbar is, my thumb hits more of the side of the lockbar than the edge. So while you can feel the little teeth, they are not uncomfortable. I can say for sure that these teeth assist with biting a glove and are why the millie is so easy to operate with gloves on.

That cutout in the scale also makes space for gloved thumbs when you are opening the knife.

A lot of people hate on liner locks but the Military is THE example of how good a liner lock can be. Secure, easy to operate, lighter weight, comfortable to use, and less prone to accidental unlocking since the lockbar is protected and nested under the scales.

A lot of people hate on liner locks
I don't understand the hate I have owned many different locks found on a knife and the liner lock when made correctly and with quality materials shouldn't fail when used properly. I too like how the lock bar is nested away. I once did drop a budget Kershaw liner lock onto the floor and when I picked it up the lock was disengaged but in that case I believe the shock that disengaged it saved the blade from chipping or breaking, helping absorb the impact. Plus in the event a liner lock fails I make sure most of my blade purchases have at least a flipper, choil, ricasso, etc to slam against my finger instead of the blade, which is something many Spydercos have.

I think the hate comes from the fact that so many “gas station” knives and lower end knives use liner locks.

I touched it, and it is every bit as amazing as I hoped. Super fine, grippy lockbar indeed that really helps it lock in your hand. Finally got an S30V Military satin finish in the seconds sale and the whole knife feels great in the hand however I hold it. Was going to remove the clip and put a heavy duty 3M adhesive clip tip up on it but the retention is so good I think I trust using it tip down I don't feel like it's going to accidentally open.

Congrats! And a big thanks for updating your thread. You don’t know how rare that is. Most guys will post something like you did then vanish like a fart in the wind. It’s so refreshing to see this.

What’s a 3M adhesive clip? Is that one of the wall hook things? I thought the Millie had tip up and tip down screw holes on both sides?

Search Nite Ize hip clip, they can be found for ~$6-8. They come with a 3M VHB sticker that is very robust and doesn't leave a residue from my experience. I've been using them for the last 3 years on my cell phones and have beat them to a pulp yet they never unstick or deform. I'd imagine if one did manage to come off, a regular clip would probably rip off too. Don't know how well they'd stick on Spyderco's textured frn but the flat G10 of the Millie seems like a perfect candidate if I ever decide against tip. A lot of people won't buy a Millie because they are tip down only. I was one of them until this idea dawned on me but the retention on the knife staying shut is quite strong and safe imo.

Try carrying in your right back pocket! Congrats on your Military

Thanks! I did try for a little bit but doesn't feel as good as front right pocket, but it was back there with my wallet so a little cramped. Maybe should switch my wallet to back left, might even out my back after sitting on it right side all these years

I've also seen where people have modified the scale with inserts to make the OG Military tip up! Not sure where they're getting the parts but maybe an option!

I did look into that, they were drilling the holes and installing their own brass press fit threaded inserts that can be purchased online but the inserts I've found seem more dedicated to softer woods and not G10.
