I've been spending some time on this forum reading about the pride and trust you each have with your Buck knives, I put some thought into it, and realized my family trusts Buck above everyone else also.

I'm going trout fishing with a couple of my uncles come April. We're headed up to his camp for a few days in the fine PA mountains. I'm making my plans for the first day of trout and choosing the knife that will be my front pocket carry. Then I started to wonder what my uncles are going to take to the streams, then I remembered that each of them will be carrying their Buck 303s. They didn't realize until a season ago that they both bought and loved the little 303. Their 303s reminded me of a conversation I had with my Dad about the little Buck.

My older brother gifted my Dad a cheap chinese stockman knife, of course my Dad was thankful and kept it. He was looking at it and said it reminded him of his old 303, being a knife nut, I wanted to see this little knife of his. He gave me a disappointed look and told me he lost it. I guess it was a snowy day and he was out hunting, he climbed over the guard rails along the road and headed down the hill towards the woods. As he made his way down the hill he slipped on the ice, and for some reason he liked to carry his 303 in his back pocket, and just like that it was gone.

This story, and the fact that both my uncles carrying a 303 kinda peaked my interest in picking one up. Well I set out to do just that and offered a different knife up for trade, it didn't take long till I was offered a 301 from a very good friend, I figured that was close enough and I would be happy with the 301. Now that I have it, I'm in love, it's the perfect size for my needs and really proves it each time I have a cutting chore. I'm used to carrying a large Case stockman, so when I threw this puppy in the pocket, I was shocked at how easy it was to pocket.

Recently I was at my uncles and I saw his 303 laying on the counter, I compared it to my 301, and I'm very happy to say I have a new companion for quite a while.

I know of an old sportsmans shop on the way to camp that we stop at each time, they have a Buck display with a 303 in it so maybe I'll end up getting a 303 for old times sake, but right now, that 301 isn't going anywhere.

Glad you like the 301, bigger is better for me, but my 373 is ok.

What part of PA mountains ya fishin in?

Well they're not exactly mountains, more like really big hills with lots of trees and huge stones.
My family has just always called it the mountains. ;)

It's in Tionesta Pa, only about 20 minutes from the Great Eastern Cutlery factory in Titusville.

great story. I also love my dads old 301 that the good folks at Buck shined up for me, it's a great knife.

Know the area well. Grew up in St Marys and have spent a decent amount of time in those parts.

I love the 303 almost as much as the 301, I carry a 303 more than the 301 and just dont know which one I like more...
