I ended up just buying a second BK76….

I haven’t received my first one….

I wanted a BK—16 get some awesome Micarta handles, strip it down and get an AZwelcke sheath… until I priced it all out….

I can get a BK76 for 5% less than it would cost to do all that AND it’s in magnacut steel vs 1095.

Ah well…

Does my logic make sense?

To quote one of my favourite films, "I'm not saying you don't know what you're talking about, but I don't know what you're talking about."

I have a BK16 with KaBar's micarta replacement scales. It's the fixie I love most. That said, you do whatever you want with your $$$ if it makes you happy and doesn't hurt anyone else.

If the BK76 will satisfy your needs...

I understand that sourcing an out of production knife and then buying replacement scales and sheath can add up to a lot. At that point you might be better off to commission someone to make exactly what you want. This has its downsides too, I've done that at least 3 times and one of the 3 didn't follow my instructions very well and thus I didn't get exactly what I wanted. However it is still a pretty nice knife.

The BK76 is basically a state and Union upgade of the BK16 in Magnacut, micarta handles, and a kydex type sheath. Everything’s getting pricier

I’m not one to quote bible verses but there is one that says it is wise to count the cost before starting a project.

Sounds like you realized you could spend less and get more by altering your plan.

Flip a coin and use whichever you get until it can’t be used.

The 1095 takes a mean edge and holds it pretty well. 1095 is Tougher than most of us will ever need. Patina looks great if you decide to strip it.

The magnucut will undoubtedly hold an edge far longer and be mostly, if not entirely unaffected by climate.

I’d post a want to buy add and see what turns up. I just sold a BK 16 with micarta and a Azewelke kydex rig for $110 - plenty of deals pop up.

Post pics of whichever you wind up with - the BK16 is a great knife in either steel.
