Sadly I sold one of my TB trackers to pay for some new furniture for my AK. After selling my knife to a friend I went to the gun store to get my tacti-cool handguard. I was having it installed and talking to one of the owners while I was waiting I saw this thick bladed knife sitting on the counter. I asked him if it was for sale and he said it was for trade, for my Spyderco Manix sticking out of my pocket. I asked him what kind of difference he needed and we agreed and I gave him some cash and my Manix. I really like this knife but have never owned one. I was going to buy one of the Ontario's at one point on Ebay, I always admired the green blade/orange handle but never followed through. I can't really find any info on this blade finish or sheath, any help is appreciated. Thanks, James.

Well, it's an older RC-5, stripped of coating. Looks like its in decent shape. I actually kinda like the grey patina. If you spend some time in the ESEE forum you'll come to see that the RC-5 is a favorite here. Stout as hell, backed by the best warranty in the business. I say nice score! I'm not sure about the sheath though. I could be wrong but that doesn't look like a RC-5 sheath:confused:

Yup, stripped and patina applied, that's not the stock sheath. Most likely when they stripped it it didn't fit really well in the kydex anymore so they put it in that one.

That's definitely an RC-5, sans the original blade finish. That knife is as tough as you can imagine a knife being. It does not look like the ESEE sheath, but if it works, that's great. You can see a whole world of them in original trim and stock sheaths in the picture thread.

Depending on how much you had to give on top of your Manix, you might have come out pretty well. A new RC-5 is $130 plus shipping, with the original Kydex sheath.

I've seen some re-coated knives in this forum that look really sweet. With the original coating stripped you could put whatever you want on it, or use it the way it is. The ESEE guys build these knives to be put to use, and warranty it accordingly.

Welcome to the addiction!

i'm confused... why were you bummed? because you lost the tracker? looks like you made out alright to me. that knife looks (and is) awesome! i love the patina.

Don't be bummed. The RC/ESEE-5 is a bad ass piece of cutlery with a matching warranty. Go baton it thru some wood and you'll perk up.

That's a cool looking finish on the old-school RC5. It's a great knife, BTW.
Me likey!

If you don't like the sheath you can always get new pants for it.

I was only bummed when I sold the tracker because I never got to use it. It was over the length for legal carry in my state. It sat in my safe the whole time. I plan to carry this one and use it often. I was very pleased with the whole deal when I got home.

Trust me you aren't missing anything when it comes to using the tracker. I had one and it would do a few different things but it didn't do any of them well. The RC-5 will out perform it for sure. Enjoy your new RC-5.

Have a good look at the sheath folks, it is the 'eagle industries' one with the pouch and strap cut off. If a RC5 numbered over 1000 is 'old school', what does that make my one, #44? Nice knife anyway and a damn site more useful than a TBT.

those tom brown trackers look cool but they arent nearly as useful as that fistful of rowen steel youve got there.nice score indeed.

Congrats on the pick up of a ESEE 5, it's one hell of a blade! The thing is built like a tank and will take whatever you throw at it and ask for more. All ESEE knives carry a lifetime warranty so don't be afraid to put it through it's paces.

*If you want a much better sheath, go to the ESEE web site, they carry a GREAT sheath for the 5 and an additional pouch that you can attach to store extra items along with it that's well worth the money.

Im glad that you were able to get one of these knives. You will be happier with this one rather than the ontario (on the account of the better quality and warranty). Tho they are both great knives.

Hey, I'm in TX too. While you can't carry the tracker EDC perhaps it is legal hiking, hunting etc!
