An old customer who is quite an expert on blades called me recently about a duplicate shipping I had sent him. As you know I erased my order file and in trying to recontruct it I omitted some orders and duplicated others. The last 20 inch Sirupati I sent him was his third and he didn't need it -- but --

He said, "I was blown away by the improvement in quality and I am definitely going to keep this last khukuri you sent me. But, I don't need three so I am going to send back one of the earlier models and I hope you will auction it off on the forum and send the proceeds directly to Sanu as an excellence bonus."

So that's what we are going to try to do. As soon as I get this khukuri back I'll post pix and you can email bids for a week. Then we will close the deal, ship the khukuri to the high bidder and give Sanu the proceeds as an excellence bonus from a very satisfied customer. I have never done anything like this before but it sounds like a very decent thing to do to me.

Objections anybody?

sounds like a good plan. I'm curious: was he comparing his most recent Sanu Sirupati to earlier ones by Sanu, or to other HI kamis?

It's a very nice idea, Bill. I don't want to sound like a wet blanket but my only concern would be in setting a precedent.

If the precedent is that customers want to reward their favorite kami in some manner I can't argue with that.

I just found out the sirupati that is going up for bid is 1/2 inch thick and an early version that is unmarked.

And, I have my first bid of $50 from a person who prefers to remain anonymous.

I misunderstood, Bill. I didn't realize that the owner was donating it for the raffle.

I don't know..... Brian's first post may have someyhing to it.....
This being a one time deal....may cause more resentment among the others than it's worth. Because, no matter how hard they try or improve they'll just be out of luck.

Capitalism and Competition, a lesson in American values. Perhaps this won't be a onetime deal, you never know what karma has in store...

Good to have that carrot to strive for, unless you come to expect it regardless.

That certainly seems like a very generous thing to do and I hope this bonus is accepted in the spirit that it is given. Well done by the "old customer"!

We could always slip the money to Sanu on the sly if it's agreed that is the best way to do it. But, we do have forumites with definite opinions. I have a couple of Murali fans, many Kumar fans, Sher fans, and even old Kesar gets a few strokes. The new kami with no mark yet is going to become a favorite, too. And, Bura has more fans than anybody!

In the past we have distribed money equally among the kamis which has been sent for the purpose of expressing appreciation for excellence.
