Hi
I bought an uncle henry 898uh at a sportsman's show for 10.00. The tang shows scc usa 898. Can someone give me some info on it as I can't find this stock number of Scrade product listings.

Good info. The knife is in excellent condition. At $10.00 did I do good? Also have to say something. I bought a middle man stockman from SMKW in irinwood. Iknow gag. It has very bautiful wood. one of the best i've seen and it's very sharp out of the box

At $10, you did well. As for the Chinese knife...well...if you know what you have and you like it, that's good. It isn't a Schrade, as in the name on it is no longer a maker's mark, it is a nostalgia merchant's mark.

What model would my 898 be comparable to? I've got the fever;bought a usa scrade off ebay. By the way thanks for the help.

Robert Clemente noted the 898UH in his book as a note to the 897UH and mentioned that the handles were different somehow and the bolsters were squared off. I have quite a few 897UH, but not a 898UH to compare side by side.

I don't usually do values on knives. They are generally worth what someone will pay you for it. Top value goes to a knife in factory condition complete with original packaging. Sharpening, bolster and blade scratches, loss of packaging all affect teh value to a collector. Most important is demand. How many people are looking for that exact knife in that condition at the time you are trying to sell it.

From the linked thread:
I have one of these 898UH knives and they are shorter than an 897UH, by about 1/4", closed length.

Other differences:
a) The blades are proportionately shorter
b) The pull on the sheepsfoot is on the reverse side of the knife (compared to the shield side on the 897UH)
c) One center pin on the scales only
d) No pattern printed on the woodgrain box
e) Never seen one listed with paperwork

It is exactly the same closed length as an 833UH, for what it is worth.
