I was hoping to have something nice for the SPS, but.....

Hi folks -

A couple of days ago I won an auction for what was described as a Pre 1965 Buck 120 -

The knife looked decent in the auction pictures, but you could not make out the actual tang stamp.

The auction also described the sheath as having a "minor" hole in it.

I was excited to get my General this evening, but when I got home, I was disappointed a bit -

First, the knife was shipped in a padded envelope, not in the sheath, but it had a little bit of bubble wrap on the tip of the blade. The blade had, of course, worked it's way through the bubble wrap and frankly, I am surprised it even made it to me in the paper envelope...

When I pulled the wrap off of the blade, I was disappointed to find that the knife was clearly date-stamped as a 1988 120.

Then I noticed somewhere along the line the retention strap had been cut off of the sheath, and then here is a picture of the minor hole:

I contacted the seller and he said I could send the knife back for a refund, which I am doing.

I did pick up another Buck, and I'll post pictures of it in the SPS - it's nothing expensive, but I had never seen one....

best regards -

That is one poor job packing. Don't know how they sent a large knife not in a box. If that is a minor hole, I guess with a major hole the knife would fall out.

Did you look at that on a computer or some kind of mobile unit?

I ask because I looked it up on e-Bay and I can easily see the 1988 tang stamp on the original auction, so you may want to check your equipment.

Looks like you were dealing with a very sloppy and careless, if not deceptive seller.

Deserves a neg.

You didn't get any good pictures for the Sunday Show, but you got some pictures and you shared a story that could help others.

Not all bad, I'd say.

:)

I got stuck once on a 110 i bought off there,it had a 440c buck blade put into a pakistan knock off,the blade didn't even lock into nhe bar properly, and the spine stuck up out ofd the frame 1/4 inch, but i can't complain too much i did get a almost new 440c blade out of it.lol .that sux for you man!

Hi guys -

Maybe the equipment failure is my eyes lol....

The knife is nice enough, but not a very early example as I was hoping to buy.

I was concerned that someone at the post office might be injured from such careless packaging, and I have given him that direct feedback.

Funny, the fellow actually said "I apologize for the description, but my wife posted the auction while I was gone" - so blaming it on the wife.

Since he did immediately tell me I could return the item, I plan on giving a neutral and listing poorly packaged, not as described, quick return option as the feedback. In that way potential buyers will have the info but he won't have a neg since he is quickly trying to act on my dissatisfaction.

I will wait until I have my refund for the $61 though. I understand that the return shipping is my responsibility, part of the deal for gambling on an auction site.

Thanks for the replies -

You are being very nice to the guy, but consider that you may just be allowing him to do the same to others.

You what I'd do? (IF I were feeling as charitable as you.)

I would get all my money back and then wait to see how he re-lists the item.

Then......if he failed to show the true damage to the sheath and otherwise listed poorly--I'd neg him.

It's a community service.

I will take your advice on this - thanks.
