My reply in the traditionals with photos of my Case Trapper and one with a similar knife with a lock back.
was removed. I referred to these knives as long and lean with junk in the trunk (full size handle; not skinny and slab sided).

The comment was off color and probably frowned on by women readers.
Agreed . . . I thought I might be going astray with the junk in the trunk comment.
I must say I have about given up on ever seeing any women members here. Seems like there are none in the forums I frequent. I have been here most every day for almost a year. Might have seen one maybe two. There were more in the woodworking forums I visited in the past. Maybe they just lurk and not post. I need to keep that in mind.

I hear you though. Thanks for the reminder.

I must say though and this was first hand experience :
There is a member here (I believe he is a moderator as well) who has an avatar that is a woman's mouth; red lipstick, her mouth is open and it is a close up . . . dark back ground.
The Chef, my partner, was sitting on the couch reading posts and replies with me and when she saw that avatar she was REPULSED AND OFFENDED.

I never really thought about it until she reacted and commented on it. Now I realize what it is about.

So . . . there yah go.

I'll be good.

Also I forget that there is NO comparison allowed in the traditionals. Seems pretty strict.

If the avatar and signature are allowed by BF overall, the traditional mods can't do much about it. But the post itself needs to be suitable for the Traditional Forum.

The knives posted in the Traditional Forum need to be...shock of shocks, traditional patterns.

Got three primary guidelines for successful posting in the Traditional Forum:
1. Post about traditional knives.
2. Use family friendly language.
3. Post friendly.

Traditional is definitely a "mixed company" forum. We got three or four very nice ladies who are quite knowledgeable about cutlery and who regularly post in Traditional. As such, we gents are expected to mind our manners.

There are also plenty of females on here, many don't advertise themselves because they do not want the sexual inuendos to be part of the experience. I can fully respect and understand that. Not a problem for anyone until someone decides it needs to be one.

How can you tell a woman from their posts? The internet is the great equalizer where content of posts rules supreme.

I'm also kind of amused/annoyed by the fact that certain forum thread titles appear on the new posts section. So when I am perusing, wife and kids can be exposed to titles in would prefer them not to be exposed to. I have asked repeatedly, if there is any way to make those hidden. I just let my membership lapse for years, so I did not have that problem. I went gold again to make a few sales, but not I have the same problem.

Pretty obvious smutt titless, referring to anatomy, etc, with Booty, and an exclamation point in the title.

It has chased many men and women away.

Many of the avatars are completely inappropriate for a family friendly forum, as well as screen names.

Bigfattyt, heres a workaround.

Instead of going to New Posts or Whats New, type in bladeforums.com into the web address in your browser. This will take you to the home page and you will see all the new posts from the various forums right down the middle. It will exclude the threads from the non family friendly forums.

I believe there's an option to purchase a "PG" membership. I don't know what that entails exactly, but it may effect what shows up in your new posts page.

Last item: "PG" Platinum Membership.
Platinum Membership that prevents you from being able to go into certain "adult" oriented forums.

In other words, no Pirates Cove, but if someone posts porn, cursing, bigotry, and so forth, in the regular discussion forums, you will see it.

It's impossible to shield everyone, from all forms of distasteful content at all times, in the entire world not just online. That stuff exists and despite having a Ned Flanders attitude with your children believe me they will see and hear it somehow at times. IMO it's all about what the individual chooses to do with it, instead of just knowing it exists.

The answer may be to get the PG membership or let yours lapse again if it really is an issue to you. I've never had anyone reading behind me comment on anything posted. How can and why should I be held accountable for the title of someone else's posts or comments in some random thread created at some point? Seems like much ado about nothing really, you get worse on TV on basically any channel these days or even the news. The only way the membership would affect anything is by going into the part of the forums where the bastids go to roost, so staying clear of that should not induce any unneeded drama for anyone in a similar situation.

That's how I deal with the Political Arena. :D I wouldn't mind an option to keep the smut, but filter out the politics :p

If you don't want family to see certain avatars of members here, there's a setting in the general settings that lets you turn off avatars so only usernames display, and you can also turn off signatures as well. It keeps threads less cluttered if you don't mind missing out on some signatures or avatars.

Also, if you save the www.bladeforums.com/forums/forum.php link as your bookmark it will skip the front page and go straight to the page of unassuming links where you can go wherever you please, avoiding whatever you don't want to see. Adults don't need coddling to make it through their day without offense, show some initiative and solve your own problems and don't try and censor others to solve your discomforts.

That stream includes new posts from W&C and the Place Which Must Not Be Named.

I was talking about skipping any 'new posts' streams at all, and simply going to the forums you want to go to directly, avoiding everything unsavory to you.

I choose to go to certain forums, just like others can choose to ignore them entirely. BF is all about choice when it comes to topics to browse.

Gotcha. For whatever reason, the link that you posted takes you to the Activity Stream rather than Forum Home. Threw me off for a second.

Your logic is sound.

Oh, I see my link was not what I thought it was, I never clicked on it after typing it out and I missed a part of the link. Good catch, now it's fixed.
