I'm a knife collector. But by no means a randall hadn't really considered it. Then suddenly out of right field my father tells me that in 2006, he ordered me a model 3 custom. Which is close to arrive sometime in 2010.according to him he just ordered it online. And it has a 6 inch blade. I don't think he specified anything else, I don't know if he would've had to. I'm not trying to pry behind his back, I'm sure he would mind. This trying to figure out what this could mean, will most likely be the 0-1 with stacked leather handles. I mean if you order a custom knife and you don't specify anything what do they do. Completely baffled :confused:. I'm kind of hoping it is carbon steel. Is there stainless steel 440 B a steal if heard of but never actually being used.

Also anything you can tell me to help me appreciate something I am grateful for the really don't know a whole lot about to be honest.

A Druid, you can go to the Randall Knife website and it will show you the standard configuration of all their catalog models, which includes your model #3. Standard configuration I believe is with the stacked leather handle and carbon blade, stainless steel would have to be specified and would be an extra charge. The other options available are butt cap, compass, spacers etc. There are multyple ways to order, but you can only get 5 options. Good luck and congratulations on the new #3. I placed an order for a #19 in 2007, so I probably will not see it until sometime in 2011 or 2012.

Druid,

Congrats, now you've got something to look forward too - and custom, as BR alluded to, with regards to RMK's, is more or less any group of options from RMK's long list of options...

A.G. Russell and I once agreed on this subject to the consternation of many (A.G. went on to publish his comments in one of his print catalogs) - paraphrased; if you specify the available options to your liking, if it's unlike any other, or if it's the first of its kind to be built, then it's a custom knife...

Again, congrats

Shel
