Last summer the show contacted me and had us make six damascus bars in differing patterns.

Season 4 episode 24, they had each smith select a different damascus pattern to reproduce for the first round challenge.

None of the makers produced a close replica of my pattern, however, it would be impossible in the three hour time limit.

They didn’t mention my name, but they told me they wouldn’t.

Kinda fun anyway.

I'll have to look for S4E24 - I'd forgot they had that many episodes in season 4. Anyway - CONGRATS! having your Damascus pattern for show.

I saw that last night. On the website they called it S5E0, with episode 1 coming next Tuesday.
I couldn't see it well enough to be sure, but one piece looked like Spirograph although they called it something else.

Devin, you make beautiful Knives and I love your Damascus for my customers that want SS Damascus... Have you applied to be on the show?

When I saw the Sharktooth I thought it looked like yours but when I saw the Herringbone I KNEW it had to be yours. BTW, your ladder pattern is so consistent, that I've had people ask me, "how'd you print that on there?". LOL

Times like this and only this I wish I had cable or satellite TV! But I soon get over it for the price they ask for the service. I'm a cable cutter, only watch what I can get over digital antenna for free.
But I do watch of course and use Netflix for $10

Interesting ya'll are seeing it as S5E0 - it was recorded yesterday off history channel from Satellite as S4E24. We watched it today - a very good program with GREAT knifemakers.

Hoss, did you make all those Damascus billets? They sure were NICE! VERY nice.

I just saw the episode. Your Damascus bars were beautiful. You should try to compete on the show. Larry

That's awesome! Well done.

I really liked the episode. I wish it were less scripted, but I say that about every show and it hasn't stopped me yet. It's becoming a little predictable. Regardless, both final blades were beautiful.

Not to stray off topic, but have any members here been featured on the show? (I'm new to this section, but have been using the site for quite some time).

It surely was some beautiful and flawless damascus.

I'd never heard of the pattern Steve Culver chose, which I believe they called "shark's tooth".

From what I remember I thought it looked like a normal laddered W's when I first saw it, then I saw him cutting staggering grooves from side to side that faded as they got closer to the center of the billet.

I'm just curious, but was Steve putting his own spin on the pattern, or do you stagger your grooves when making that as well, Devin?

Btw, Congrats! ..."kinda" ;)

Sharks-tooth= laddered w’s. I don’t know where he got that idea. There’s no way someone could make that damascus pattern and make a blade from it in three hours. Just the soak time to re-stack and re-weld would put it out of reach.
