I was wrong

I was one of the folks bashing the micarta 25 when the first pics surfaced. Thought it was butt-ugly.

I've just spent the last two days staring at one on the drive to work, at work and one the way home from work. Oh, and while brushing my teeth. And whenever else I can. Like right now, thank goodness for auto-correct.

I love my 25, it was my first-ever CRK folder. I never thought I needed/wanted a micarta version, until I saw a couple of pictures of them lately on the forum and after recommending that very knife to a potential new Sebenza owner on this forum over the weekend.

Last Friday night I was saying to him "get one, you can't go wrong." And also that I did not need one, I already had a perfectly fine 25.

So Saturday afternoon I go to my local knife shop to get the 25 and my Wilson Combat Eagle sharpened on a paper wheel, and lo and behold there was a micarta 25 sitting in the case, where it had been since they picked it up at Blade.

Lonely. Sad to be in knife-jail, locked up in a case. Hadn't done anything wrong, either. Calling my name.

So it was meant to be, and came home with me. And it is, indeed, much better looking in person, and with the extra beefiness of the 25 design and the extra little bit of handed-filling grip of the micarta, it might be the favorite CRK of my collection.

That could be clouded by the fact that it is the newest CRK in my collection, to be fair. Nevertheless, it is what it is.

Anyone else immediately purchase a knife that just the day before they swore they would NEVER buy? CRK or otherwise?

I stated in my post in the ugly 25 thread that I'd reserve my judgement for when I saw one in real life even though the pics made it look fugly. Boy did I get lucky on that Obama style no answer answer cause I'd be eating crow right now if I'd have totally bashed it !
My awesome friend ( Blackend here on the forum ) brought one over last Fri and I couldn't believe how good it looked here in the real world. It had a feel that was way better to me than my plain 25, it felt like they trimmed the choils which made it MUCH more comfortable to me. If I didn't have the plain I'd be looking into getting the micarta one for sure.

I've found that I always bond with a knife that I've freed from the endless torment of the display case prison. Congrats on your new knife.

I got one for my micarta collection, even though I read all the post that couldn't believe it was coming out and kinda feeling the same way, it was a whole different story once I got it in hand. Yeah, it's all that, of course there was resistance when the 25 came out as well and I am a 25 fan. So, it's all good now :)

I had one and sold it. I like the 21 better with Micarta but that is just me. I still have my small micarta 21

I bashed it when CRK first put a pic of it up on their website. Looked like two black noodles laying on the ti slab...horrible pic (CRK needs a website of quality that matches their knives imo)

It wasnt till Neil @TNK took some friggin awesome pics of it that I did a complete 360.

Held one at Blade, and they are sweet! I do however wish it would have been a different design, like a solid piece.

Mine has done nothing but grow on me this past week. Funny how that happens sometimes.

Put a gray Ti CRK Sebenza lanyard on it Thursday (cut the post off and stretched it around the 25 lanyard standoff) and it looks even better now. I'll post a pic here in a bit.

Man... in person this thing must have some kind of magical power of suggestion/mind-manipulation... because no matter what pic I see of them... they are still ugly (especially by comparison to an inlaid 21). IDK... guess I'll have to wait till I run across one in person someday... but for now... still meh.... :-\

I totally understand, having felt the same way and uttering pretty much the same words. I don't think I was so kind.

It must be like that pretty girl in high school, who when you looked her up in the yearbook later was not that impressive and no one would imagine she looked as good as you said she did. Not very photogenic.

So here it is again, in a photo another forum member took and posted, thank you for letting me post it. The bad iPhone photo I took today is too large to post but this one is much better quality and as I own a SS Beretta 96 .40 also I could not help but save this picture.

So I don't know if I'd call it "magical," but maybe it is. It magically took a bunch of funds from my bank account!

I'll say it is again, maybe the 25 micarta is just not photogenic. It needs to be seen in person to be appreciated. Like a hot exotic dancer, which can also cost you more money unexpectedly than you ever thought you'd spend that way!

At least the next day, I still have the knife and not only memories and buyer's remorse!
