Well I went to the USN Gathering in Vegas to help out Matt Diskin at his booth . STeven and I worked the booth along with Matt and we had a great time,

Got to visit and drink and dine with some great people like Stephen D"Lack and the very talented and funny in a weird kinda way Gavin Hawk:D

Spent time with Spencer from SAR and laci Szabo to name a few. Tim Galyean gave me one of his excellent Kershaw folders to try out in the field this year in fact althought this type of show was new to me I found the people to be great. It was a very giveing show and people gave me lots of stuff:thumbup:

I was very impressed with the 2 Tony's from Microtech and enjoyed dinner and drinks with them that Steven setup like no one else can. STeven loves to go to dinner. All in all a great time.

Awhile back I became very friendly with Dave Mirabile of Alaska he and his very funny and cool buddy Mark where some of my roomates. Dave is a very talented real deal maker and besides that is one of the coolest dudes to hang with you could find . Plus he ironed all my clothes the whole weekend:D

Dave is in my mind a master bladesmith that really knows how to forge a true combat blade he relies on ancient materials and techniques mixed with cutting edge materials and techniques so you get the best of the old and the new.

I really was not looking for any blades this trip but Dave had 3 blades with him and as soon as I saw this one which really was his own carry blade I started working on him. Daves a good buddy so he hooked me up.

He had a slightly smaller version with him that the esteemed Mr. STeven snagged. In fact after seeing me wearing this knife around Dave took three orders for similar pieces from in my opinion some very esteemed collectors and giants in the knife world Congrats Dave well deserved this knife is excellent

So on to the knife

Of late I have been reduced to dressing up and that makes at times carrying a big bowie very difficult. So I have had an interest in small well designed fighters

Dave really incorperated some very cool things here first you have a a shape and design that just stands out with performance features. The short 5 1/2 inch blade that is slightly hollow ground is wicked sharp

The clip is like a talon and sharp enough to be plenty sticky.

The blade is a forged stainless laminate with a W 2 core left Brute De Forged for plenty of character and ease of maintanence.

The Guard is stainless the handle is ebony and ivory wrapped with a cool as hell carbon fiber wrap in a Japanese style that bites into your hand very agressively.

This is what Dave does so well he makes an ancient looking blade useing techniques of old like laminated blades and silk wrap but throws in the modern techniques like the stainless laminate and the carbon fiber wrap.

The sheath is very well done and one of my favorite carry styles in this size blade

I truely love this blade and it will see alot of carry under a suit and was more than I was looking for Thanks Dave you are a master

Thanks Big Matt for taking me to Vegas I had a blast

Very cool knife Joe. I have always felt he has a style all his own. Sounds like you had a good time.

Congratulations, Jon

WOW! That IS a cool looking knife Joe. Sounds like Vegas was a great trip.

Congrats!

Dang, Joe...I like that a lot! What a great 'dress-up' carry blade. Or, 'dress-down'... :D

Great knife and show write up. Have heard nothing but good things about the USN Gathering. Nice to get such postitve feedback.

The heavy 'Brute De Forged' gives awesome character, but looks like a wire brush or spray washer may be needed to get the blood out. Just a great small blade profile. Can't wait to hear some reports after use.

Lots of coolness in a small package...sheath included.

nice thread buddy.
Great knife, I could see that being a real unobtrusive carry, plus the materials used to make it are pretty damn cool.

Joey, how much more would a finished knife cost?.... and what the hell are those stains all over the blade???:D That sheath is way nicer than you described.

Great knife and sheath. That handle treatment and shape are particularly nice to me.

Yes, I particularly like the handle treatment as well.

Sound like you guys had a very nice time.

Joe,

Nice knife.

I know that "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas", but I worry about you liver if you keep hanging out with STeven. :)

Take it easy,

Jim

VERY cool knife Joe! The more I see of these stainless laminate blades, the more I love them! That's one mean looking piece man, congrats!

Thanks for the report and congrats on a very striking knife. I'm not big on wrapped handles but love everything else.

Roger

Thats a great looking knife Joe, congrats. And thanks for the report, sounds like a must make trip one day...

Great show with an interesting mix of products and makers both custom and commercial. The ABS, Guild, NYCS etc could take lessons from it. These guys are the future of knife shows!

You come up with some fantastic stuff, Joe.
Congrats !
Very cool package !

Doug

That knife is all business, dressed in class--a bit like a masquerade ball. Nothing you'd expect, but it has authority and presence.

Good on you Joe. Dave IS good people. I think so, too.
