I wish I'd thought of that!

Nalgene wide-mouth bottle owners/users: I read about the GuyotDesigns Splashguard in the March 2003 Buyer's Guide issue of Backpacker magazine and decided to get one from Eastern Mountain Sports. Those of us who've gotten a faceful of cold beverage (especially when bottle is loaded with ice cubes on a hot summer day) will appreciate this little simple device. Here's a pic from the site:

you know i bought one of those a while back (well not that long ago) and i meant to post on here about how useful it is but i completely forgot. it does make drinking out of the nalgene bottle a lot easer. well worth the 3.50 or whatever.

You have to respect those clever ideas. When the "camelback" hydration system came out, lots of cyclists said "what, carry water on my back?"

Hehe- now, even the military uses em'.

dammmn........ i did think of one of those last september. Only a little different. My piss off was trying to drink fast and quench my thirst when i had a bunch of little ice cubes in a glass/container. It's difficult! So i thought of a grid that snaps on to the top and holds them back an inch from the rim. (a grid like the bottom of a potatoe masher) AND my idea works from any side of the bottle. You don't have to look for the spout.

Hmmm......maybe their patent only exists in the USA.

:)

I don't understand why you don't just get the same size nalgene with the small top. If you put something like that in you are effectivly paying more to get the same design that the smaller mouthed nalgenes offer.

I have one of those. One problem is that unless you get an ice tray that makes small cubes, you won't be able to fit them through the narrow mouth bottle. I even tried just putting the narrow mouth bottle in the freezing with some water in it for ice, but when the ice melts, I'm back to square one. The wide mouth bottle is easier to clean, too.

hey redstripe
that's a very good idea
i've never seen the design you mentioned, it might be worth developing
