Hi,

This is my first post so I apologise if this thread is in the wrong category of BladeForums. Anyway, I'm looking to purchase Kukri for my grandfather and I need some advice. A friend recommended this site, so here I am.

A quick search on Google gave me the following sites. I had a good look through each one carefully and narrowed down my choices as follows:

Himalayan Imports Khukuri

Nepalese Kukri House

Tora Kukri Supplies
http://www.toratoratora.co.uk/kukri/details.asp?id=14

Khukuri Palace
http://www.khukuripalace.com/Conten...php?PID=1f0e3dad99908345f7439f8ffabdffc4|5a51

Has anyone got any experience on the above kukris? I personally like the look of the Tora one mainly because it's the only site with any decent pictures.

Thanking everyone who replies in advance.

Regards,

Mike

michael,
you may want to post this over at the Himalayan Imports khukri forums. The khukri guys hang out there. From what I've heard, Himalayan Imports' khukris are pretty good, altho' a bit more expensive than others. Uncle Bill (Martino) will also take care of you.

Gurkha House is the other brand you can consider - I think they have their own forums on KFC.

Whatever you decide, you've already made a wise choice to go for a khukri - they are superior tools and knives for the money.

You might want to check out the Himalayan Imports (HI) forum here on bladeforums.

There's usually a special offer every week and the prices are excellent for an authentic Nepal made khukuri, but unlike some of the tourist stuff these blades are meant for real use. I have two HI khukuris which i consider the best deal I ever made.

Post any questions on the HI forums - plenty of khukuri fans there.

FYI Ghurka House went out of business several years ago. I have no experience with any of those mentioned except for HI. I own eight of their blades and just bought two more yesterday. After five years of doing business with them I have nothing but praise. The standard models (not blems) are nearly flawless, extremely well finished and tough as nails. Check out the link in my sig for details on that. They will perform equally well as a showpiece or as a tool. Just my .02. Good luck with your gift.

ah Kurt, hahaha - shows you how much I've been keeping track with the khukri world. I love them but can't own them due to local laws....I know there's another khukri manufacturer with a forum over KFC, right?

Sorry spyken. The khukuri forum over at KFC is just a discussion forum for khukuris. There is no "one" manufacturer represented there. HI used to have a forum there and is where I first got started, but with the decline in Bill's health that forum was closed.

Infamous restaurant!? Chicken Pot Pie!!

No, it isn't Kentucky Fried Chicken. :D It's Knifeforums, a similar site to Bladeforums, but run slightly differently. We sometimes refer to BladeForums.Com as BFC and KnifeForums.Com as KFC.
