I wonder what would happen if folks only posted their knife for sale once. It seems that the Exchange has turned into a battle to "keep my knife on top" again.

IMHO there are not that many knives for sale. It's the same knives over and over and over and over, etc. One would think that after posting a knife 35 times you would get the hint that maybe no one wants it or the price may be to high.

It seems odd that one would post a knife for sale in the afternoon and find it on page 3 by midnight.

This is not a rant, just an observation.

Just trying to get as much exposure as possible.Maybe the one guy that is interested in the knife just logged on.

have a"knife"day

If the guy who just logged in hasn't seen your "ad," then the cookie on his computer will have the BF software flag that post as unread.

I realize that some, myself included, clear out their internet cache periodically, but I would hope those people are smart enough to look back through the ads and see what they might have missed.

I trade/sell rather frequently here, just becauce i haven't gotten an answer before my ad has dropped out to page #2 doesn't mean that no-one wants it.
Every member doesn't look at the "for sale" forums daily.

I can see that it might be annoying, but then is one only allowed to offer a knife for sale only once???

My knives!

I think the "problem" wouldn't be so severe if sellers wouldn't post their 10 knives separately, which knocks other posts to the bottom quickly. I also tend to push my
"for sale/trade" ads back to page 1 simply out of frustration.

This was discussed here awhile ago.

I, for one, have no problem with looking through a few pages for a knife. I don't think a knife has to be on page 1 to sell. If I want a knife, I'm going to spend a little time making sure I get the best deal, so if I have to look to page 11, I will. Rather than reposting, I think the BTTT idea is best. It will reduce the chance of two people fighting over a knife that is listed in two different places, and help avoid some disappointment when the seller forgets to mark one of his knife posts as sold. Just my $.02.

If I had my way I'd slap those clueless BTTT'ers who think that 6 months and 50 ++ Btt's will sell their knives and lock their ID from posting for a couple of months.

To me it's pretty simple, 2 or 3 BTTT, and if
it doesn't sell goto ebay, wait 6 months, or drop your price 20%.

I suppose this should go to GBU.

Whatever floats your boat ... I think the expensive knives especially can take a long time to sell ... you need a buyer who needs that knive -- and has the money just then. It's not always an available combination.

BTTT every few days isn't unreasonable, with a reposting the next month. mojo jojo had a lot of patience selling a nice Dalton, and it ended up OK, with some great pictures along the way for the rest of us!

And what happens if a seller does list 5 or 10 or 20 knives in one ad? That makes it easier for me to see what he's got, and as they sell off and he edits and edits, he's also bringing it to the top so we can see what's left.

I would like to ask, as you all edit off the ones that sold, please just put -- SOLD! next the original entry, to leave us with an idea of the asking price (even if you came down on it a bit by private e-mail but don't want to say so).

Really quick solution to this would be to do away with the For Sale forums altogether and to use a Classified Ads program, but that went over like a lead balloon... until someone comes out with some software that is nice and attractive, inexpensive and efficient, we're stuck with what we've got.

Insert witty quip here

I think everyone is a little bit right here.
I recently sold 9 knives starting with one individual post in which only ONE sold... Broke them up individually and let them ride to page 2 but not 3 before bumping them and dropped the price $5 about every other BTTT.

Two things were quite evident. 1) Dropping the price had little effect as the people who eventually bought hadn't followed the post and subsequent price droppings. 2) Not ONE of my knives sold nor did I receive an inquiry when it was beyond page 1! You can call it coincidence or BS but that's the way it worked this time.

I got absolutely nowhere with one post containing all knives and they all sold when they were on page 1. And 'yes' every knife sold.

People are BTTT'ing for a reason. It's kinda annoying but I know if I see someone who is motivated to keep their post up and also who's culling the price then they are motivated to sell. Someone whose post is on the 4th or 5th page with no BTTT I figure doesn't need to sell badly and won't inquire unless the price is hot. Just my 2 cents but I have the MO's to back it up.

And just to spice up the conversation...

I had one knife (a Benchmade 705) that did not sell when on the 1st page. I think I BTTT once or twice. About 3 weeks later(not sure exactly), from a page very far from the 1st, it sold. Obviously, someone was looking for a BM 705.

What works, works. What sells, sells. If it was science we wouldn't need advertising. Can be darned annoying though when a knife you post in the morning slips to page 2 before supper time!
