An old project I want to finish.
It was going nicely, but then I was reminded that ebony tends to crack.
Dow!
Seems like I’ll start over again with a piece of blackwood.

All I can say is, you're definitely not alone :( Many makers have had the same problems, and dealt with it the same way - now they use blackwood or even paper micarta instead.

I have found that with ebony it is not if it will crack but WHEN it will crack.. Had a knife for about 5 years with an ebony spacer. All was good until I decided to sell it. Then it decided it did not want to go and checked. So I now use blackwood. Still have some ebony and don't know if I will ever use it.

CA will help but it is never a perfect match. If it is a repair on an existing piece it is ok. If it is a new build I would start over. Jmho

That's extactly my though.
To be honest I am glad that it happened before I glued everything up.
