I would like thoughts on real world EDC choice of Manix 2s

I have gone heavy into the Spyderco world over last few months upon discovery. I believe for now the Manix 2 is my big knife favorite. I have three, two paras, salt 1 se, delica 4, native se, dragonfly 2 and ladybug.

Which Manix 2 would you EDC to use (not beat up)?

I know which one I may go with but would love your choices and why.

I would buy the moonglow and other sprint runs to put away and collect. I would edc the translucent blue. I've heard it's very light weight and should be a great knife! That's mho anyway.

That is kind of my thought but I expect many will say you have them, you should use them.

FYI, the translucent one is really nice.

Yea that's what I've heard. I've came close to buying one but just haven't pulled the trigger yet. Most of the sprint Manix's have S30V steel and I'm not a big fan of that steel. That's one of the reasons I like the translucent.

Probably can't go wrong with any of them. Only one I ever EDC'd was the regular hollow ground 154CM/G-10 version. While I found the Manix 2 a bit too bulky, and the jimping too "tacticool", I was very favorably impressed by the way 154CM performed.

I have used my CTSBD30P manix 2 pretty hard. It makes a great work knife, and I quite like the steel. I've EDC'd my Orange S30V manix 2 for a while now but haven't really beat on it. They've both worked great and, aside from minor differences in the blade steel and G10, are pretty much identical. I wouldn't touch the translucent blue one with a ten foot pole because I really dislike plastic handles on knives and, from what I've seen, it costs at least as much as the standard G10/154cm version from most dealers. That's a personal preference thing, though.

EDIT: I misunderstood the post. I'd use the BD30P one out of the ones you own.

I've heard GREAT things about the bd30p steel and ive personally held one and the g10 is more like the Carbon Fiber they use on the stretch than the g10 on my manix...I've had the CTS-XHP manix 2 in my edc rotation for at least a year and its one of my favorite if not my favorite knives (Xhp is an amazing steel). If you can find one I suggest you pick it up,that or the one with the m4 steel

My $.02. The translucent version is almost a different knife...I would put it in a different bucket. As far as the others, I don't think there's been a Manix 2 made that wouldn't be a great EDC. The regular 154CM version is extremely affordable. One small potential caution on the Moonglow is that the acrylic is less durable than G10, if that matters to you.

Great comments. I love the feel in my hand. My use is not brutal so the translucent is nice and light with great blade. I would compare to a salt or my native with no liner. I pretty much trust spyderco on the plastic like I pretty much trust Ruger with their plastic guns. I hear you though. If I were going out into the woods camping or just off grid, I would choose my g10. My day to day will bounce between the two because I just really like them. The moonglow fragility is a great point. I will just show that off on my weak Edc days when not using a different blade. I must fit in my para2 smurf and regular and other spydercos.

Thanks

I would use the FRCP and BD1 translucent/lightweight Manix. FRCP is much tougher than simple plastic, and I always thought the Manix 2 felt a little heavy for the size. I imagine if you swapped the clip for a low ride clip, you'd be able to have a very light and discreet knife, with quite a bit of size to it. :D

I've also heard only good things about the BD30P sprint, though.

G10 BD30P ffg Sprint run

I have been EDCing this blade for the past 6 months and I dont see it getting kicked out of its place anytime soon.

manix2 BD30P, it has awesome heavy textured G10 (my favorite G10) and so far, i'm prefering BD30P over S30v.

Funny. I Iike blade swap idea.
I would like a deep pocket clip for translucent. Where can you get one to replace wire clip?

Another vote for the BD30P sprint. Love that knife and I think it's an excellent alternative to the production Manix 2. It's definitely on my list of knives to buy so I won't have to carry my moonglow Manix 2 as much. The carpenter steel can definitely take the everyday beating too...perhaps a bit better than standard s30v with edge retention.

Must say I love this translucent m2. It is light and smooth. I will rarely have occasion to truly challenge any of my blades except in emergency and this can handle a a lot. I wore 5.11 the past two days and carried sprint run G10.

I've got about a dozen Manix 2s. I really only EDC the S90V version. It doesn't get any better than that with the carbon fiber handle.
