I'm sorry I had no idea it was inappropriate to ask about value, that was my first post. I was gifted this knife over eight years ago and forgot all about it until recently when someone on another forum had something I was interested in. When they mentioned trading for knives I dug it out of storage to see if they'd be interested. After taking some pictures to send them and familiarizing myself with the knife I began to appreciate it's quality and craftsmanship. When I didn't hear back from them I started checking on the internet where I came across this forum. After spending a few hours checking out all the cool knives I started thinking about having my own collection. That's when I decided to check and see what I had here to start a collection with. Also could someone please explain stickies and bumps?

Thanks!

It was only inappropriate at your membership level. Upgrade to Gold or higher and ask away.

Typically, in a forum, the newest thread is listed first. As more threads are started, the older threads are moved down. When a thread is replied to, it returns to first in the list.

When a thread is replied to just for the purpose of moving it back into first that is called a 'bump'.

When a thread contains information that is important or referenced often, an administrators can 'stick' it at top of list so that it doesn't move down, hence it becomes known as a 'sticky'.

I'm new here also, but not new to internet forums. I hope you don't think I was calling you out posting the sticky link, just trying to give you a chance to CYA and edit the post.

Always read the stickies posted at the top of every different sub section of every forum you plan on posting on. Different sub sections have different rules frequently.

Stickies are the tacked threads at the very top of all the post listings. They usually have a visual indicator like a tack, or special highlighted color, and will not change in their position. These are stickied because they contain information that is so important you should read it before reading general threads.

A bump is when someone posts in a general (non stickied) thread. Threads with the most recent post in them will be at the top of the page, the longer a thread goes without a post, the farther down the page, and even multiple pages back, it will fall. A "bump" is someone posting in that thread to bring it back to the top of the list, and try and revive the topic of the OP.

On this forum, the sticky threads blatantly say "Sticky" before the rest of the topic of the thread.

Sticky'd threads are "stuck" or locked at the top position in a forum. They contain announcements or other important information such as rules or changes to the way things are done in that area, or simply messages from the forum owner. They should be read at least once in a while to see if anything has been updated.
Bumping simply means bringing a thread from a lower or older position in the forum to a higher or newer and more visible position.

Thanks everyone! I get it now. I'll be hanging around here for awhile familiarizing myself with the site. I tried to sign on earlier on my laptop but was unable. I use the same password on most everything ( I Know) but couldn't get on after five tries. Is it possible I can only use the forum from this ip address?

I have connected from my computer, tablet, and mobile phone. I don't use Tapatalk or any other apps for access to Bladeforums.

Well, we're happy to have you. An far as your question regarding IP addresses and logging in, it doesn't really work that way. I doubt that we could set up a VPN for you. Just get on a computer and click the "remember me" box when you log in. If you are using Tapatalk or similar, then you might have to take alternate measures. That app really isn't as polished as people think it is and has a history of being buggy with every release. One of the more annoying bugs is that when you ty and post something, the app decides it will report the thread which is a completely different function. I browse and moderate with an iPad and have zero issues or need for Tapatalk, the only thing I can't do is post pictures immediately.

I had the same problem but with a little help (bighelp)from your friends you will get by . A big thank you bill.
