I would like to compile a new Kami Key

Hey folks, with the new Kamis and all I thought it would be nice to try and revamp the Kami Marking key. What I propose doing this time though is making it a bit easier to use by getting folks to post those Kamis they have in a format like this one I did on my ASTK-V:
main.php

I think if we all pitch in and post up what we have in this sort of format, with the entire set of initials and mark and all, then ID who it belongs to, it would make it a lot easier for everyone to use. I am happy to be the one to compile these and then make it into a PDF file again. Hopefully we can even get all the really old ones as well as these brand new ones down in this format and then they will all be assembled and look the same making them easier to key out. I think there may be some that were before this format was adopted, those we will will simply put into the key the way they appear in the wild.

I am able to take the following pictures of my own items and use them for the following Kamis: Bura, Dil, Get, Kumar, Lok, Murali, Sher (Tiger) & Young Sher Bhadur. Anyone able to fill in all or some of the holes for me, please just post them here (and ID the Kami) and I will download them to my computer and when I have the lot or it seems to be all I'll get, I will publish. I will also harvest what I can from the existing thread, if it is in this format, and use those as well.

If you think this is worth while, then please help me out and post your stuff if you are able to help out. I think I have a list of them all as well but if you do, I wouldn't mind checking mine against yours. Thanks folks!

Great idea actually!
This keeps things in order and actually contributes to the hustory of the HI khukuris and the people that make them. and it's good from collectors point of view to keep tab on this thinks.
If I may suggest also give the year when the khukuri was made for the record.

not sure if it was IDed right, I will post the picture of the mark here in a bit...

does this mean you'll help or what?

warty, I'd be glad to do what I can. You do have a wider selection than I do but I can always troll around the Forum and try to find representations, or anything else you can think of that would be of help.

Unfortunately, I haven't got this data for the bulk of my collection so I don't know how I could provide it.

That's a good idea actually, maybe the Kamis in the future could add a tiny notation on the blade as to year of make, say 13 for year 2013. Currently we only have two periods, pre-UB's passing and post. Anyone else interested?

So then we still need to date all the old ones, I am not wanting this to become complicated really.
I think the kamis have enough on their plate without trying to remember to put a notation of the year on the blade.
Let's not get carried away here, I don't want to make this any harder than it needs to be, OK?

Most do not want any more markings on the blades. It was hard enough to get the kami's to mark the khukuri as they do now. If one wants to know when a khukuri was made they should make note of it themselves. Not knowing when the thousands of previously sold ones were made would make this an exercise in futility, IMHO and really not worth the effort.

No complicate this. If the Seller/Owner doesn't know the who or when of a blade that has a mark that's been used often, the best you can do is give an overview of who/when it might be. Something like Murali's many marks may prove a challenge in the future.

Thanks Karda. I looked through all the kami marks I could find in the library but it didn't match. Just curious.

Just got my M43 in. Anyone know which kami this is?

Can you remember what DOTD it was, She usually says the Kami when she sells the blades. I will keep this one for the new key and hopefully you'll tell me when you bought it so I can add it to my stuff. Regarding Murali and some of the others who have changed their marks over the years, I only have the Murali "leaf" mark so if you have some of the others, please feel free to add to the library here. If I can get a moment today, not that it has stopped raining finally, I will pix of my marks and post them so you can post yours IF THEY DIFFER from he ones I have on mine. I know it is inevitable that this will become all tangled and confused as a thread but I can assure you, I will be checking it daily and taking note of he new marks and saving them (and backing it up as well) so I can make sense of the data in the end. Then, I will start producing editions of the new Kami Key and simply updating it as needed. I will note the edition of the key on the PDF and in the name of the file so you will know what you have at all times and be able to update yourself as needed.

Thank you for your help.

This is what she told me when i asked this morning:

Auntie Yangdu said:
The up side down mark is Murali Kami mark. This is a leaf call Pan ko Pat I do not know what we call in English.

That's a commendable effort, good luck ya'll!

Here are the ones I just took, plus I have harvested all the old threads and guides and gotten permission from Gator to use all of his old ones too. I will post a list of all I have here soon as I finish sorting it all out. For now, here are mine:

Bura
main.php

Get
main.php

Kumar

main.php

anyone know if he ever did his initials in Devengari?

Lok
main.php

Murali
main.php

Sher
main.php

Young Sher
one of the new ones. This is a Madal Drum
main.php

So if you have ones that are different than these, I would like to see them please. I also really hope you know who they are too and can tell me so I can add them to the key. A picture of the mark is good, an identified picture of a mark is best. Thanks to all who help and I hope to see the new marks especially start showing up here.

Well, I don't think anyone will be adding anything to the Kami list anytime soon so I will have the new key read on Monday. I hope then everyone will be able to ID who made their blades and if you cannot, I encourage you to post the mark to my thread on this subject so we can add it to the key once we figure out who's it is...

I will see about posting the first addition of this thing by Monday. Should you find that your Kami is not in the new key, POST A PICTURE of the mark to this thread so we can both add it and figure out who's it is so I can add it to the key.
