...I don't know what people want. I have a wire EDM machine and asked, but my post was deleted because I'm apparently considered a vendor. I understand the vendor fee but there's the Catch-22: I am not a business owner and am not selling anything. I simply want to know what people might want and what services I can provide. Is a $300 vendor fee required in order to ask? I agree that once money exchanges hands between me and a customer, that changes the picture, but until then, I'm not a money-making entity.

You can come on here, talk to other members, post pictures and see what people want. Spend the time and then you can decide on next steps.

Actually, it did, as within 24 hours, an admin (I think) let me know the thread was deleted due to my perceived trolling for business.

Welcome to the forums. The mods are just trying to look out for the membership and try to keep the rules fair for all.

It was probably based on your very low post count since joining so recently. I think what Danke42 met was try posting and getting involved in threads and get to know the people and how the forums work for awhile. And then let us know what services you will/can provide and maybe ask about what type of services the members might find useful.

There are so many people that join and immediately try to sell or bypass forum rules that it kinda jumps out like a big red flag. But I think If you get involved and spend a little time posting in threads getting acquainted you might have much better luck.

And maybe have a discussion with a mod on how they think is best to proceed would answer some questions for you. I will tag a couple of the mods so they will see this thread and hopefully answer questions and give a bit of guidance how best to move forward.

It will probably be tomorrow before they see I tagged them, but I would expect you'll hear from one in the next day or so.

You could go to the New Member thread and introduce yourself. Tell us a little something about yourself and what you do. And without lots of details (until you talk with one of the mods) explain that you are considering getting a Vendor account if your services might be something the members wanted.

New member thread link here ...

I'm not the mod who removed your post. But I just read it. You offered a list of things you could do, ie services you could render, and then invited people to post or email you if interested in such services. That's promoting a business. Can't do that as a registered member. So your thread was removed.

If I were you, I would post in the knifemaker section and ask if the knife makers who hang out there think there's a market for decorative patterns cut through blades leaving holes in the blades. Make clear that this leaves a hole in the blade and a cut from the outer edge of the blade to the decoration. (cringe)
Don't offer specific services you think you could perform. Don't give contact information. Don't invite emails.

Personally, I would never want anyone to "decorate" any of my knives by cutting pictures or patterns through the blade, no matter by what method. Nor would I ever buy a knife with a blade which had such decorations in the blade. Buck Knives makes some, occasionally. I honestly can't think of anyone else who puts holes in the blade for pictorial decoration purposes.
Here's one such Buck knife

If this is the type of service you're offering kb58, i don't believe you'll have very many customers here. The vast majority of members on this forum are going to want usable blades, and are unlikely to send their expensive knives in for a decoration that would essentially make them useless as knives. Definitely the type of service meant for cheaper, already decorative, blades, which you're a lot less likely to find here.

knarfeng knarfeng explained the situation quite succinctly...and now the OP can decide for himself whether he wants to pursue the options that Frank outlined.
