Well, I don't know what YOU did to get hate mail --- but I posted a knife without setting a price on it! Other than that, even the guy who didn't like the knife I had sold him was pretty darn civil. I sure liked my purchase from you, so don't go off in a huff

Actually,

After I sent him a reply, he seems gruff and testy, but decent.

I may have made another friend.

It is a rare talent that can turn something nasty into something seemingly positive. Is the guy a lurker too shy to post? Amazing sometimes how fear can come out as aggression.

You have more patience than I ever hope to have. Pretty well shucked that when I figured out that between 2 and 3 of my 19 months in Vietnam was spent standing in line, usually for food. I am impressed with the evident response you make to this person, and hope he can be brought out into the light.

It's just too damn easy to get nasty on the internet. When you are talking to someone face-to-face, you are more apt to consider their feelings but when you are casting your thoughts into the great void (i.e., the internet), it's too easy to "speak your mind" without assessing the impact. It's kind of like, I don't KNOW you personally so I can TRASH you.

It seems more and more that even the most innocuous threads have someone posting in them with the proverbial hair up the butt. It turns a lot of people off. Other's just ignore it and shrug it off. Still others leave the forums. And unfortunately, I don't think there is much that can be done about it. Moderators are doing what they can but there is a limit to what they can do and still keep the forum a place for open and free discussion. And obviously they can't control private email. Anyway, it just seems to be the nature of the beast. So Marion, don't give it another thought. I think Maurice summed it up well. You're a great contributor here and this bs is undeserved.

I think it's interesting that you were able to turn it to somewhat of a conversation by your response. Shows your true character Mr. Poff!

don't let the occasional crackpot bug you. You're widely admired around these forums as a generous knife enthusiast and seeker of truth.

Marion, I have no idea why you would receive such a nasty-gram, but you may have answered your own question, in your "wood handle" thread (rather, one of them). I counted no less than 5 different places, both here and over at KFC, where you posted the exact same question. Now, I know what it's like to really want your question to generate response, and not knowing exactly where to put it, but this might be overkill. The admins on these sites are dealing with huge volumes and ever increasing storage and bandwidth needs, and posting the same question in several places might not be the best way to make friends.

Just my $.02, y'understand.

Be proud when people start to hate you. They only get nasty when you're kicking a$$ and taking names. So you're doing something right.

Peace,

Brian.

Marion all I can do is echo what the others have said.

Funny thing how these types of emails are sent via alias names. It is hard to take someone seriously if they are not willing to stand behind what they say on an email with their name or at least a forum handle. I have to admit that without those, I just hit the delete key.

Marion I dont know what you could have possibly done to recieve an email like that. Im sorry to hear it.

For the record I consider Marion one of the better more stand up guys on the forums ... and he has been here forever. I asked about Mineral mountain knifeworks a while back and the man offered, then sent me photocopies of articles he had refering to Mineral mountain knives. Paid for the postage as well !!! Yea right ... the forums doesnt need people like him.
This is a Gentleman!
