I would love a "3D" Calypso JR

One thing that turned my away from the Calypso Junior everyone loves so much is the handle. It's more of a raised 2D shaped, and I don't care for the ridge around the edge.

For me, the perfect knife would be a Calypso Jr with a handled modified in as similar manner to the Native III. Ever since I bought my Native III I have been hoping for more Spyderco models with super-grabable handles.

Would this ruin the knife for anyone, i.e. does anyone prefer the flat sides of the CJ to a rounded handle?

I like the flatness of this knife so much that I carry it clipless. I love the feel of this knife.

however, I never handled a Native, so I can't compare...

I don't recall the exact thickness of the Calypso, but somehow I was imagining it was not really very thin and the edges could be rounded down with little or no increase in thickness. Is it thicker than a Delica or the same size?

If you mean just removing the "raised border" around the perimeter of the handle, then yes, I'd go for that. In fact, have considered doing it myself. Nice thing about FRN, it's easy to reshape, sandpaper and a block of wood is all you need. The only reason I hesistate is that I have a nagging suspicion that the "raised border" is actually functional, creating something of an I-Beam effect and making the handles more resistant to flexing.

If, on the other hand, you're suggesting thickening the handle by adding palm swells and a heel rest, as on the Native III, then thanks, but no thanks. I've found I would much rather spend ten hours sitting on a slim knife, like the Caly Jr., C41 Native, or Stretch, than a bulky one like the Native III. If things were reversed, and I was using the knife almost all the time an sitting on it only few minutes a day, then my answer might be different.
