I would not take it on a cruise?

I'm going on a cruise to the Bahamas soon and I'll be going on several excursions on islands with my fiancee. I was hoping to bring something in H1 with me but I'm finding conflicting information re: knives on a boat...

Anyone out there have issues with pocket knives in checked bags?

Note: I called my booking agent and he didn't have a firm answer for me...said "it should probably be fine". I just don't want to end up with 1 less knife...

Thanks!

i think it depends on what company youll be catching a ride on, i believe most international cruise lines and shipping company's dont even keep personal firearms

As I've done in the past my vacation this year included a cruise and then a trip out west to attending Martial Blade Camp. In addition to training knives I have always pack at least one live blade in my luggage and have never had a problem.

We stayed in Florida for a few days before the cruise. The hotel handled our luggage and it was taken from the hotel directly to the cruise ship to be delivered to our stateroom at some point during the evening. My wife happen to be in the stateroom when the luggage was delivered and was informed by the stateroom attendant that some questions were raised about knives in the luggage. My wife was expecting to be told that one or more of my knives had been confiscated.

Fortunately I had only packed training knives and none of them were confiscated but it seems the cruise lines are becoming less tolerate of even small pocket knives being carried on their ships.

not a knife, but indicative of their lunacy - a friend of mine went, with his family, on a cruise. he dumped out a bag he uses for the range and turned it into a carry on. OOPS, there was ONE ROUND of ammo stuck in the crease. they found it and flipped out!!! it gets better, he's LEO. he showed 'em his creds, he told them what happened, they didn't care, he got the 3rd degree, was eventually let on the boat, but was the VERY LAST person to board and obviously they kept the single round of handgun ammo.

I've never been on a cruise but I would definitely want a serrated blade on the water for emergency cutting of ropes, etc. If I couldn't bring one aboard I would borrow one from the galley and sharpen/serrate it myself for the duration.
You never know when you might have to act to save yourself or someone else.

I was on Carnival about a year and a half ago, anything under 4" that wasn't a Bali or auto was generally fine.
The biggest problem is going to be the laws of the ports you stop in.
I'd recommend an H1 Ladybug or something, keep a low profile and don't ask for any attention.

He's lucky. A U.S. citizen received three years in prison in Bermuda for possessing a single round of .22 rimfire ammo. Again, he used a travel bag as a range bag and the same thing happened. Bermuda customs officials made the arrest and he was vigorously prosecuted under Bermuda's strict anti-weapons laws. For a cruise, I would only carry a Leatherman or similar multi-tool. Also, I do not use my travel luggage as range bags. I have a dedicated bag for that purpose. Besides live rounds or spent shell casings inadvertently being left in the bag, it is also exposed to powder residue from my gunfire as well as from those people firing next to me. This could show up during luggage screening as a false-positive for explosives. TSA screeners would really freak out if that happened. :D
