Another joint venture between yours truly, and Bruce Bingenheimer;

More to come...

Looking forward to it. Interested to see how the story of "Icarus" applies? Mike

What's in a name?

Well, I originally named this pattern 'Dragonboat'. Bing preferred the title 'Icarus', and I feel that's actually much more compelling and accurate. I hope that Bing will add his thoughts.

The shape of the handle is somewhat wing-like, and the blade is reminiscent of a feather, (to me, at least).

Another thing, this knife is a full on prototype. It has never been made before, and the only way to know if it will work is to build it. Knowing Bing as I do, clever and humble inventor he is- a Daedalus of sorts- he himself knows to avoid getting too close to the sun, and make his invention work.

But me? Time will tell :)

It's looking pretty sweet. With the design and attention to detail going into this, about the only thing that will get toasted is what ever is in the blade's path. Mike

Looks good.

Bingalor was good, but this one could be excellent....both of you are starting to hit your stride.

Best Regards,

Mike thanks for asking. Some how Lorien explained it best. He likes to read my mind though we live a thousand miles apart.

Looking forward to seeing it. I love your work, and the WIP's you post

Abby, thanks so much. Unfortunately we will not have time to do a full blown WIP on this one. Only going to be hitting a few high-lites. We are 2 weeks away from the Seattle knife show.

Thanks STeven, You don't know how much that means to Lorien and I.

Thanks everyone for following along.

Now I need to get back to hand sanding the fuller:eek:

Real nice design!

That means a hell of a lot coming from you, Gustavo! Thanks :)

I got an email from Bing this morning, which always puts a spring in my step, but especially when we've got a job going on.

Lorien, This is after I started hand finishing but want to show how I milled
in the fuller. The fixture is made in such a way that I can flip it
over. Move the blade to the other side and It will be almost perfect on
both sides. Credit to Mike Quesenberry for explaining to me on how to do this.

On a side note: My machining skills lack so there is going to be a lot of
hand finishing the fuller. As you can see on the the pic most are cleaned up
on this side.

Will get a few more pics later today.

Nice work again guys. You two are quite the dynamic duo.

Looking forward to checking this out in Seattle.

Nice work guys!

I really enjoyed the Bingalor thread and will be watching closely!

Bing - I like your style! ...the fuller jig is a nice way to do that, good stuff.

That thing is lookin' really nice!

Hello!
