Ice fishing, kitchen work, fire prep all with Boss street. Put her through the ringer

Went out for some more ice fishing today, pardon me if I seem a little loopy as i'm still up since yesterday. I figured, what the heck? Why not just bring the Boss street and see how it stacks up for it's size.

What I hadn't expected was that my buddy had brought more firewood to the bob house, and that it was all unsplit... This was a job for a battle mistress, but all I had was the boss street. I will say, it takes some time to split a log when all you can get at is the corners. I BEAT the knife without mercy. Thick frozen logs that banged up my sarsquatch something awful. I put a pretty thick convex edge on this knife and it really had no interest in chipping/denting or in the end, even dulling.

I batoned wood for the fire. I batoned through nails, whacked ice. Did food prep, cut line, everything you can think of. This knife came out on top.

It's not looking so pretty for only being a weak old, but the edge still shaves arm hair after pounding the living hell out of it.

Some fish....

What a tremendously rugged knife. Thanks Jerry! Now i'm going to bed.

What... No chopping on frozen wood?????! ;)

Great looking knife there... well loved busse's looks so cool.

I chopped using a baton... and realized what a PITA it was, so I switched to a chainsaw for sectioning large sections. It held up fine though, like I said, it had a very high polished convex edge... but I left it at pretty much factory geometry.

That's some good looking fish, sausages, and yard bird you've got cooked up there. Looks like a carnivores delight yeah! Oh! and that boss st. also seems to have held up to the beating very well. Congrats 230,

We ended up catching about 30 fish by the time we left, we all ate way too much. Burgers, venison chili, hot dogs, venison burgers, steak/eggs/bacon/breakfast sausages, venison sausages.

I swear, I eat enough food to hibernate the rest of the winter in one outing.

Honestly, the knife performed awesome. I cringed going through the nails, but the only damage was some dulling/blunting, not even a real roll.

I'm going to be sad when the ice melts... but that's what Bass boats are for.

Thanks for the pics! The food looks awesome - I can see why you eat so much. Looks cold, too. :D

I would think that's the exact use Jery had in mind when he designed the Boss Street. A little bit of everything, and no job too tough.

Looks like a great outing. My joints are hurting just looking at your pics. The sausage though is making me hungry. I am glad the Boss Streets worked well for you, do you have any thoughts either way about further refining the edge (like would it ever need it)?

Winter Perch, my favorite...and Crappie and Pickeral too, nice haul.
Great pics and review, thanks for sharing

I might take it a couple degrees thinner, but really not much more. To be honest, I didn't even resharpen the knife, it could still shave hair after being used all day. The only maintenance I did on the knife was stropping it on my leg a couple times here and there. When I got home I did maybe 5 passes each side on a loaded strop.

did you use the chainsaw to fillet ??

:p

nice pics mate !!

Of course, is there a better way?

I love Crappie, it's one reason I love being a New Englander (NH is the finest state in the union :D) We had flags popping left and right, I'd say it was about 40% crappie.

All that food and no booze?

Had I slept the night before, it would have been a different story!

Glad it worked out for you:thumbup: You were starting to have a really dark cloud over you:mad:

My luck is changing thankfully, but honestly, I wouldn't call it a dark cloud. I've got my job, my health, my fiancee and free time to do what I like. There's snow on the ground and the ice is almost 20 inches thick, what more can a guy ask for? Oh and Hopefully a KZ soon. :D

Cool, yeah I would never let something as silly as a knife get me down but I am glad things are working out for you in the Busse World:D

Right on Mike!!! Right out of cold water and in the skillet. We do that up here as well. Hadn't been this year but it sure is fun ice fishing.
