Ice Fog

I was just out driving and am amazed at the idiot drivers. It has been -40 or colder for the last few days and the ice fog is thick. In the valley we live in when it gets this cold the moisture gets trapped in by an inversion. Yesterday there was a bad accident involving a school bus. Fortunately when it is this cold the roads are not slick.
Check out this web cam.

I've been to Fairbanks twice in January to do research at PFRR. The ice fog is amazing!
It got to about -50 one day we were there.
Coldest I've been was -50 with a wind -83F windchill, which was in Svalbard, Norway/Russia.

ICE FOG SUCKS!!! :barf:

We occasionally get it in Los Anchorage and it make's the trees "pretty", but it still sucks. Only been around 0 to -12 here, but still cold to me.

AK Ivory,
I'll have to plan a trip up there some time. Probably/hopefully will be sometime in Feb. I want to check out the true N. Lts.

It be slow down here and I need to get out. I'll contact you when I find out :D

Wooooo even 0 to -12 is TOO COLD TO GET OUT.

Ice fog ... :( ... How do you polar bears keyboard with those long sharp claws?

Don't tell me you're human living up there. :)

A bit too cold for my taste.

Worst I have seen in the mountains of Virginia is -26F....doors to the truck would hardly open. Big engines did not want to turn over. You could not even get extension cords to plug together outside. Too cold for the female contact to slide open. BRRR....we had record high yesterday :)
But winter is due back here Saturday. Stay safe and warm.

It is supposed to warm up to -10 by tomorrow. I ran out of heating oil at 5:00 AM. Fortunately I had the truck plugged in and went and got 5 gallons. Almost every one here has a garage but mine is so full of junk I cannot get in it.
It really is not any harder here in the winter than living in a very hot climate in the summer. At least you can dress for the cold. Spring is beautiful here in the interior ,it stays below freezing as the days get longer. You have a couple of months where you can ski, ice fish, snow machine or mush dogs under ideal conditions.

Feb is a good time for northern lights. I've been to Fairbanks twice to study N. Lts. with sounding rockets. The colder the better to get rid of the clouds, drive outside the city to get away from the lights and the icesmog. Plan your trip for the new moon cycle so you can see more detail without getting blasted by the moon. Good luck, it's worth it.

Warm here too today 56 (Upstate NY) but below freezing high tommorow.
Wow -26F in Virginia? Was that temp or windchill? Nobody used to dealing with that down there for sure!
