Ice scraper as a make-shift stick.

Greetings All,

I got a wild hair today while I was outside scraping the snow and ice off our cars- I started swinging the icescraper like an escrima stick. Surprisingly, it flowed really well.

Intrigued, I took the scraper inside with me afterwards and beat the crap out of my stickfighting dummy with it. The scraper was extremely effective- very fast and maneuverable in the hand and hard hitting, with the leading edge gouging some wicked holes in the dummy- and held up to the abuse with no damage. It was much better as a make-shift weapon than any mag-lite or other batton like object that I've tried.

The kind of scraper that I used is one of those that is made of an I beam of hard plastic about a foot or so long with a rubber grip at one end and a angled plastic triangle at the other that has a brass strip inserted in the leading edge to srape ice with. I got mine at BJs but have seen them everywhere. Some have a brush along one side of the scraper(easily removed

I figure that anyone should be able to find some reason to carry something as mundane, as innocent as a scraper in their car- regardless of the climate where they live

I was doing this the other day as well. The plastic in my scraper has just enough flex to be really nasty when it makes contact. I even gave my left hand a bit of a tap with it and raised quite a welt.

I saw some pinhead on 20/20 years ago interview the Author of The Poor Man's James Bond Series of books. I think it was Tom Jarrold, however you spell his name...he referred to Kurt Saxon as a "fanatical nut."

I'm not successful yet, so, sadly...I must accept your title.

Steve 22595,

The slight flex was exactly what I liked about it too. It felt like one of my 7/8" dia. sticks- just enough give to feel alive, not dead in the hand like a Mag-Lite.

I scraped off the chrome horse this morning with a folding scraper -- it's made of three pieces of aluminum tubing held together with shock cord so you can fold it small enough to fit in your coat pocket. The scraper blade is cut at an angle so thrusting with it would be like thrusting with an oversize American tanto.

Actually it isn't as strong as I'd like for a weapon ... it'd be better than your fingernails, but ... it gave me an idea. How about putting an angled plastic scraper blade on an ASP?

Even if it's illegal to carry a telescoping baton in your jurisdiction ... it's an ice scraper, officer ... you never know when you might come across some ice that needs scraping....

Cougar Allen,

Cool idea! And, if one were to paint the whole thing some bright, innocuous color and remove all ASP logos- maybe even put on a new logo sticker 'POCKET-PAL ICE SCRAPER' or some such- it might really work.

Hmmm...food for thought.

Actually, I've been a BIG fan of the Delta Press's Executive Ice Scraper for a couple of years now. Actually though, thes days I buy them from an online company called J&L Self-defense products. It's a couple of bucks cheaper, and they ship a little faster.
