I've never seen anybody mention the Ickler Belt Grinder before. It runs a 2.5"x 48" belt with a 1/2hp. motor spinning at 1750 rpm. It's made in America (I Like that). The belt speed is 3300sfm. The contact wheel is 6.75". I think this is the grinder that Texas Knifemaker Supply sells.
Has anybody had any experience with this company or grinder? I was looking to spend around $500 for a grinder and not buy something made in China. This might be the one!

I think the Craftsman model would be cheaper. I use a KMG and I know the cost is considerably more, but I would say its worth every penny. I started with a 1 hp and could still stop it, so I think the 1/2 hp would be under powered. I also think the belt size is odd, there are a lot of options in the 2 in. size. But if you try it let us know what you think.

I have one and it works fine. The tracking adjustment is not quite as simple as a KMG/Bader. I bought mine as a no-motor setup from Centaur many years back, and fitted it with a low speed 3/4HP motor and a DC drive. I use it for sharpening. The belts are not a problem, as many folks carry that size, and Klingspor will make any of their belts in that size. I would agree that it isn't a lot better than a Craftsman, but the ability to run it off a controlled motor will make it a more useful tool. You can pick up a 3PH 1/2HP motor and a VFD drive, or a 1/2HP DC motor and drive for probably $100 for the pair. That plus the basic Ickler unit and a box of belts will cost $500.
