Let me just start by admitting I don’t know doo-doo about swords. A friend of a friend found this piece inside the wall of their house while doing a reno, and somehow my friend ended up with it. Nobody knows when, how , or from where it got there. He doesn’t know anything about swords either, but he thinks it’s probably junk. Can anybody tell what it might be? I can have him send me more pics if that would be of help.

Thanks!

I hear the "It was found in a wall" story all the time. It is a popular selling point online and places like Ebay. I have never met a person who actually found a sword in a wall. Closets, basements, attics, garages ... Yes. Walls - No.

When I started scrolling through the pictures I immediately noticed that horrible dead give away pommel and scabbard. The vaguely talwarish grip also said India. Then I saw that terrible blade grind and the decorative motif. India. Then I got instant validation with the whole giant made in India etch. Not that they need it but I completely agree with Glen and Stacy. It's A low quality Indian made piece that I wouldn't take as a gift.

Doing old renovation on buildings and one I'd run into is items placed in old window casements, where whomever did the new weight ropes (nip bottles, corn cob pipes and such). There have been an occasional sword story. I once put a nice time capsule of WWII posters in a ceilng. I was often finding newspaper, folded up as a shim as another find from when that building was made.
