Hi folks. I once had an odd survival tool that was about 14" long. It was shaped like a thick knife with a round end and a wood handle The opposite side had a broad hammerface welded onto the end of the blade for hammering. It was advertised in Boys' Life magazine for years. It had a good leather sheath, as well. Anyone remember something like this?

no...didn't look much like that. The hammerface was about 2" in diameter and made it difficult to split wood with the end of the blade. I recently viewed the Woodsman's Pal and it was often advertised along side of it...like 20-30 years ago!

Any chance of doing a rough sketch of it and posting it here? It would make it much easier to potentially ID or dig up info on!

I can't figure out how to post my drawing from "pictures" on my PC
You have to upload it to another website and then use the URL from there in the tags here.

And yeah, sight unseen it most sounds like a Skatchet, but the hammer part and the mention of a weld somehow being involved kind of throws that for a loop.

That's what your description made it sound like you could possibly be describing, and I'm afraid I don't think I've seen mention of any such a tool before.

I'd swear I've seen/heard of that somewhere before, but I can't recall where. jblyttle jblyttle has seen and handled tons of tools like that, maybe he will recall seeing one before?
